Visiting the country for two days, he expressed his love for the blessed people of Mexico with these words: "I am grateful for the friendly words of welcome which the President has addressed to me on behalf of all Mexicans. I would like to reciprocate by renewing once more my sentiments of affection and esteem for this people with their wealth of history and ancestral cultures."

JPII Shrine Poland Pilgrimage, Day 10! Our pilgrims visited Warsaw today, praying at the Shrine of St. Faustina, which includes the Center of the Divine Mercy and St. Faustina Parish. The building was destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising and remained in ruin until the early 21st century, when it was brought to the current renovated state. The Pilgrims remembered Mother Teresa Eva Potocka, Foundress of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Poland, who established the first "Mercy House" in Warsaw on November 1, 1862. "Is it a small matter to save one soul?" (M. Potocka)

Today, we celebrate the feast of St. James, the first of the Apostles to be martyred and the Patron Saint of Spain! Let us recall St. John Paul II's ‘European Act’-- his firm, but hopeful words to the people of Europe at the Cathedral in Santiago:

“Since the 11th and 12th centuries, the faithful from every part of Europe gathered in ever larger crowds at the tomb of Saint James, here they gathered from France, Italy, Central Europe, the Nordic countries, from rulers to the humblest villagers; Christians of all spiritual levels, from saints, such as Francis of Assisi and Bridget of Sweden (not to mention the Spanish saints), to public sinners seeking penance. The whole of Europe gathered around the ‘memory’ of James in those same centuries in which it was building itself as a homogeneous and spiritually united continent.”— JPII, 11.9.82

Pilgrimage to Poland, day 9: our pilgrims visited the Shrine of the Birth and Baptism of St. Faustina at the Roman-Catholic Parish of St. Casimir in Świnice Warckie, Diocese of Włocławek.


“How easy it was to pray in that little church!”
St. Faustina

It owes its fame to the Apostle of Divine Mercy, St. Sister Faustina Kowalska, who was born here, was baptized here and lived here in God’s mercy for sixteen years, half of her life.

Standing at the baptismal font of St. Faustina, we humbly repeat the words of John Paul the Great: – For Her, everything started here. In the Land of Świnice we call Her: the Mystic of Głogowiec.

Pilgrimage to Poland, Day 8: Today our pilgrims visited the convent of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy which still stands in Plock, St Faustina experienced the first apparition of the Merciful Jesus, telling her that an image of him be painted, signed “Jesus, I trust in you.” Standing at the site of these revelations is the Shrine of the Divine Mercy, visited by pilgrims from around the world.

JPII Shrine Poland Pilgrimage, Day 5: Sr. Faustia speaks to us at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Zakopane-Krzeptowi, Poland which was built just a few years after the assassination attempt on the life of St. John Paul II. JPII credits the saving of his life to Our Holy Mother of Fatima!

JPII Shrine Poland Pilgrimage, Day 7! Pilgrims visited Jasna Góra in Częstochowa, a Shrine dedicated to Our Lady and one of Poland's primary places of pilgrimage. The image of the Black Madonna, also known as Our Lady of Częstochowa, is one of Jasna Góra's most precious treasures. (St. Faustina prayed here, entrusting her final vows to Our Mother of Częstochowa.)

These photos were taken on Saturday during their visit to Auschwitz (and a complex of over 40 concentration and extermination camps operated by N**i Germany in occupied Poland) during World War II and the Holocaust.
