PROTECT OUR TEENS FROM DATING VIOLENCE!!
In this week’s Wisdom Wednesday, Domestic Violence Expert, Kaycee Simmons, explains that one in five teenage girls are assaulted by a boyfriend or partner. Some teenagers believe their bodies still belong to their first partner, even in a new relationship, and that a partner is allowed to be violent with them.
Ms. Simmons explains several factors that can contribute to teen dating violence, including but not limited to witnessing their parents’ experience violent behavior, exposure to media, acceptance of unhealthy behavior, and their parents’ failure to model healthy relationships.
Violence is never acceptable!!

IS YOUR VIOLENCE ROOTED IN CHILDHOOD WOUNDS?
Could anger, violence, or destructive behavior in adulthood stem from childhood wounds?
This Wisdom Wednesday, CLR recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Dr. Diane Kern explains that witnessing violence in childhood can leave emotional wounds that show up in adulthood. Because children often cannot stop the violence around them, they may internalize fear, anger, and helplessness.
To cope, children may suppress, avoid, or deny the experience, or develop other survival strategies. Yet unresolved trauma can persist, later surfacing as anger, aggression, depression, substance abuse, or unhealthy relationships. Counseling can help to break this cycle.
Recognize the trauma. Address the pain. Break the cycle. Begin the healing.
