Briya Public Charter School

Briya Public Charter School Briya’s mission is to strengthen families through culturally responsive two-generation education.

Families enroll in Briya’s two-generation program together: immigrant parents study English (from basic to advance levels), digital literacy, and parenting while their children receive a high-quality early education. Briya also offers a high school diploma and training for Medical Assistant and Child Development Associate credentials. At Briya, families build on their strengths and gain tools and support for improved educational, economic, and social opportunities.

After wrapping up classes, our Early Childhood department held another successful Exhibition of Learning. This event offers an opportunity to pause and reflect on the learning that has taken place throughout the year—among children, between educators, and within the department. The exhibition also reminds us how foundational these early years are for a child’s future and the educator’s role in shaping that journey!

In June, Briya celebrated three National External Diploma Program (NEDP) graduates. At the ceremony, DC Public Charter School Board Board Treasurer Carisa Stanley Beatty gave remarks, as did the program manager and each student. NEDP is a rigorous program where students earn a high school diploma by using their work and life experiences to demonstrate abilities in subject areas that are aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards.

We're honored to be featured as a national bright spot for early literacy by the Center on Early Learning Success. Building a strong foundation for literacy starts early, and it was a pleasure to share how we create the conditions for successful literacy outcomes.
