Lee Montessori Public Charter Schools

Lee Montessori Public Charter Schools Lee Montessori was founded in 2014 to foster a lifetime love of learning and cultivate independence Montessori education also places a high value on courtesy.

Lee Montessori Public Charter Schools provide a high-quality, student-centered experience for a racially and socio-economically diverse community with the goal of empowering each child we serve to transform society. At our two schools in Brookland and Anacostia, students receive individualized or small-group academic lessons in multi-age classrooms taught by highly trained instructors. Children ar

e encouraged to work independently with hands-on manipulative materials that help them to make discoveries in mathematics, language, science, geography, geometry, art, and music. Lee Montessori's core values are grace, equity, growth, bravery, and joy. We ask all of our community members to act according to these values, especially in writing. Comments on this page may be hidden or removed if they violate these values.

Eight Lee educators testifying…countless emails@and petitions…parents showing up at hearings and budget meetings (with their Lee kids!)…and two votes later….we have a big win DC Charter School Alliance! The DC Council’s FY27 budget increases funding for charter schools by $15.7 million over the Mayor’s original proposal. We are grateful for the community support and the cross-city collaboration to get this done!
There is still inequity to fight in the future, but we know that the additional funding will help our students and children across the city.

It’s almost the end of the year, so we had to celebrate all of our success with our awesome staff! But not everyone could be there…some of our educators are already off for summer training! Adult learning doesn’t stop: we’re building skills and knowledge in Montessori methods, reading interventions, standards-aligned curriculum, instructional leadership, and more. Even as we celebrate we’re getting ready for next year!

Upper elementary students presented their ancient civilizations research to VERY curious younger students today. They ate Mayan corn, played ancient ball games, and watched a play about Ancient Greece. We love when older students teach younger ones - it’s such a great aspect of the Montessori method!
