Ruck For The Fallen

Awhile back, Ruck for the Fallen helped start the journey to deliver an American Flag organically from Texas to Washington DC. The flag is handed off from one location to the next , slowly making its way to its final destination in DC. At each fire department members would sign the flag in remembrance of our friend Alex Douglas Graham who passed away. Please follow the journey and the group! https://www.ruck4thefallen.org/ALEX-GRAHAM.php?fbclid=IwAR10-UpVja2HWZEGfYPOqTHjzAvBBg-ijZR3l9bgdxOGVPXe8jIPy-7xvbs

Wayne Allen Drapeau “Droopy” was born on February 17, 1970 in Meriden, CT and passed away on October 28, 2019. Wayne started his fire service career as soon as he was old enough in Wallingford, CT. He moved to MD in 1990 and became a live-in member of the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department. He also became a day-crew member of Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad (BCCRS) before moving to Pawley’s Island, SC and joining Midway Fire Rescue. He returned to MD in 2001 and resumed working at BCCRS until he was hired at DCFD in 2002. Wayne spent his entire career at 33 Engine, Truck 8 including four years at the Fire Investigations Unit (FIU).

Wayne had a 16+ year career with the DCFD and it was his dream job. Due to the nature of public service and first responders’ careers, Wayne was diagnosed with PTSD as a result of the on the job trauma and tragedies that he experienced and witnessed. Even with consistent treatment over the past year and a half, he was consumed by the disease and succumbed from injuries related to it.

Wayne is survived by his wife, daughter, two step-daughters, parents, brother, and two god-daughters. The brothers and sisters “Droopy” has touched over the years are far reaching, and to everyone who met him he is a gentle giant with the intimidating mustache! Wayne has left behind a legacy whether he knew it or not.

In Lieu of flowers please send condolence donations to: https://my.iaff.org/CSiDonate/Give.aspx…

We will be hosting a celebration of Wayne’s life. Please join us on Sunday, November 3rd from 1pm-4pm at Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad (BCCRS) located at 5020 Battery Ln, Bethesda, MD 20814. We will be serving light refreshments upstairs in the hall for everyone to gather and share their memories together.

Rest Easy old friend

With a heavy heart and great sadness we are humbled to inform you of the passing of one of our own, Technician Alex "Big Cuz" Graham from Engine Company 21. Our condolences are extended to his family and all who knew Alex.

Alex suffered a medical emergency on Thursday working at our training academy. Alex received exceptional care from our brothers and sisters who were by his side the entire ordeal. That same top notch treatment continued from the staff at George Washington University Hospital. He fought hard while being surrounded by loved ones.

Alex passed away yesterday afternoon surrounded by friends and family.

We'll be at the side of Big Al's loved ones as we assist them with funeral arrangements. We will convey the plans as soon as possible.

We'll miss you dearly old friend.

On Friday, October 25, 2019

"Technician Alex Graham E-21 #4 Technician suffered a significant medical emergency while at work. Members at the school immediately began providing excellent care to him and he was transported to a local hospital. He underwent several hours of surgery. His family are by his side along with members of Engine 21 and Fleet.

The family is requesting no visitors at this time. They extend their thanks to everyone for the support they have received from the local, the burn foundation and the entire Department.

We ask that your continued thoughts be with him, his family, the members of engine 21 and all our brothers and sisters.”

I've paraphrased the above which was put out by our Union. There has been no major changes since "Big Al" was taken to the ICU and stabilized. Please keep him and his loved ones in your hearts and thoughts.

A huge thanks to the guys from Engine 21 who saved my ass Saturday night when I fell in the bathroom. Responded quickly, were really competent and get me back in my wheelchair pronto. 👍👍
I think you guys responded to a couple calls to the nursing home on Newton-where my aunty needed a ride..thank you 💘
I know you won’t ever forget how much Alex loved and adored you guys and what you all did for the citizens of Washington, DC.I’m a proud sister and miss him dearly
They are the best crew in DC always an open door policy and all questions get answered. Great at putting up and testing fire alarms free. Love ya guys missing DC hete in Georgia.
Yesterday, a fire engine and several firemen came to our house. My 5-year-old was so excited he put on his 'real fireman boots so he could look like a real fireman.' Apparently when I wasn't looking, one of the firemen gave him a high-five. Thank you!!!! My son excitedly told me how he got a 'real high five from a real fireman.' He wore his fireman costume the rest of the day.
Look what I found
