Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, facts matter—especially when your words unfairly condemn an entire profession.

Michael Brown’s death was thoroughly investigated. The Obama administration’s Department of Justice concluded that the evidence supported Officer Darren Wilson’s account and did not support federal criminal charges. Calling it “murder” is politically charged misinformation—not a statement supported by the evidence.

Likewise, citing every person killed during an encounter with police as a victim of “police violence” deliberately ignores whether officers were stopping an armed attack, protecting an innocent person, or defending their own lives.

Every loss of life is tragic, and unlawful conduct by any officer must be investigated and punished. But vilifying nearly 800,000 law-enforcement professionals—and recklessly connecting them to “white supremacy”—does nothing to create meaningful reform or safer communities.

Citizens deserve accountability— from elected officials.
