The Walter Pierce Dog Park (Adams Morgan Dog Park) was created in late 2004 as the city's first official/unofficial dog park. A group of neighborhood dog owners and interested citizens worked with the Department of Parks and Rec., the Executive Office of the Mayor and the Council of the District of Columbia to establish the dog park on the western edge of Walter Pierce Park, an area of the park th

at had previously been underused or often used for illegal activity. Part of the work including helping draft and lobby on behalf of the necessary legislation to allow for off-leash dog parks in the city.

Construction for the installation of a bathroom and commemorative signage for the former cemetery will begin on July 8. Fencing for the construction is going up today (July 3). The park should still be completely accessible throughout the project. You will have to access it via Calvert Street or the Adams Mill entrance closer to the Zoo. FYI the dog park is a mess right now. While still mostly secure the fence along the back is in questionable shape. Use at your own risk. It was reported to 311 this morning (and hopefully earlier too).
