On the anniversary of D-Day, we reflect on the courage of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy. Their actions turned the tide of World War II and secured freedom for generations.

DIA's second director, then-Lt. Col. Donald Bennett, was among those who landed in the second wave at Omaha Beach. Recalling the chaos and plans gone awry, he reflected, "I had to act, to do something, anything, and everything within me screamed that I had to do it quickly." For his extraordinary heroism in organizing the beachhead and advancing against the enemy, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the U.S. Army’s second-highest award for valor.

That spirit of decisive action and leadership continues to guide our mission today.

The landscape of global security is evolving, and our Reserve intelligence forces are evolving with it.

DIA Director Lt. Gen. James Adams recently joined leaders from across the Joint Reserve Intelligence Centers, Combatant Command J2s, and other DoW components at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for the Joint Reserve Intelligence Program (JRIP) leadership conference. Centered on the theme "Ready 27," the conference established a strategic roadmap to modernize capabilities and ensure our total force is agile, integrated and fully prepared for the national security challenges of 2027 and beyond.

During his keynote, Lt. Gen. Adams emphasized the vital impact of our Reserve and National Guard professionals, stating that JRIP’s success is due to the high caliber of the people who execute the mission.

By prioritizing rapid mobilization and technological modernization across all 27 Joint Reserve Intelligence Centers, we are ensuring that the Department of War maintains a combat-ready posture in every environment.
