Our Congressional Fellowship is designed for rising AAPI professionals looking to increase their experience in public policy and service. The full-time, paid, 9-month program, places fellows in congressional offices to gain policy experience serving as part of a legislative team.

The Honorable J. Traci Hong is a nationally recognized expert on immigration policy. Judge Hong most recently served as an Immigration Judge in the Department of Justice. Prior to that position she served as senior policy advisor for the Department of Homeland Security, Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. Judge Hong served as counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law. She also served as the immigration program director the Asian American Justice Center, as a staff attorney for the American Immigration Council, and was in private practice in Dallas.

APAICS programs focus on developing leadership, building public policy knowledge, and filling the political pipeline for Asian Pacific Americans to pursue public office at the local, state, and federal levels. APAICS addresses the need for more Asian Pacific American political leaders at all levels, including: - A two day Leadership Academy for Asian Pacific American Elected Officials where participants are provided with training in various areas, including campaigning, fundraising, media relations and coalition building. - Fellowships and summer internships for qualified graduate and undergraduate students to work in the U.S. Congress, Federal government, or non-profit organizations. APAICS also partners with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) and Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) to offer several joint “Tri-Caucus” programs throughout the year. Through the Tri-Caucus, participants learn about coalition building and develop a greater understanding of the needs and challenges faced by different underserved minority groups.
