Here are some early photos of the original model design of Mount Rushmore National Memorial and the project during construction. I think in times like these the discussion should also include what monuments to add, not just what monuments should be taken down.

Many are saying the Obama Legacy will be destroyed as a result of this election, however the fact remains that for the first time in our countries history a black man was elected President, and then re-elected for a second term. That in itself is a legacy no one can take from him and it is an inspiration for future generations of minorities.

It seems every week or so, a political pundit or newspaper columnist, metaphorically speaking, propels the president to Mt. Rushmore status. In fact, Rushmore and Mr. Obama are invoked so frequently in the same sentence that I began to wonder.
Even from the Right Wingers at the Regan Coalition are talking about the POTUS. Rasmussen Reports found out back in Feb that a large majority of citizens would vote to add Obama to the Monument!

"You are kidding me right?" - A question received from a visitor about this endeavor. Our response: Provide me with any reasonable argument against immortalizing the first Black President of the USA, which has taken more than 200 years after the end of slavery to achieve. Forget about your political bias or racial predictions for a minute and consider the implications not just for the Black population of this country, but rather for all minorities: Hispanic, Asian, Indian even Eskimo. We can now look to a future where the President of our Country does not necessarily have to be a White man, unlike the prior 43 (actually 44 if you count the first President prior to the Constitution under the Continental Congress). Just be open minded to the fact that many in the minority feel that this is an achievement worthy of a celebration and substantial enough to be memorialized in this way.
The current issues in the news show that there is much more to be done. Two more years to change the way people see each other, treat each other and live with each other.
