U.S.VETS is the nation’s largest nonprofit provider of comprehensive services to homeless and at-risk veterans. U.S.VETS is a private non-profit organization providing housing, employment and counseling services to our nation’s veterans, the men and women from all branches of the armed forces who have served their country from World War II to the current conflict in Afghanistan.
(1)
At each of our eleven locations around the country, U.S.VETS personnel go into the local community to find homeless veterans and guide them to crucial services that might help alleviate the challenges they face as a result of their homelessness. The range of services includes housing and employment assistance, as well as access to veterans benefits and treatment for mental and physical health problems and substance abuse.
Mission: The successful transition of military veterans and their families through the provision of housing, counseling, career development and comprehensive support.

PRACTICAL WAYS TO COPE AND RELAX during this difficult time:
* Relax your body often by doing things that work for you—take deep breaths, stretch, meditate or pray, or engage in activities you enjoy.
* Pace yourself between stressful activities, and do something fun after a hard task.
* Talk about your experiences and feelings to loved ones and friends, if you find it helpful.
* Maintain a sense of hope and positive thinking; consider keeping a journal where you write down things you are grateful for or that are going well. Thank you SAMHSA for sharing this helpful information.
Support our Military Veterans by donating new unopened journals, motivational books, puzzle books, and/or coloring books to give positive activities during COVID-19. Contact Debra Truchon at 202-559-4514 or email [email protected]. #ServeThoseWhoServed #USVETSDC
CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission. Support our Military Veterans living in our transitional and supportive housing program by donating masks they can wear onsite or when the have to leave for medical appointments, shopping, and/or essential business. Contact Debra Truchon at 202-559-4514 or email [email protected]. #ServeThoseWhoServed #USVETSDC

At U.S.VETS, our priority - now and always - is the health and safety of our staff and the communities we serve. As a homeless service provider that provides housing 24/7/365, we do not have the option to close our doors. Our staff members will continue providing service to our veterans and families on a 24/7/365 basis, and our care for them is of utmost importance at this time.⠀
In addition to monitoring the national standards of best practices, U.S.VETS has developed strict protocols to support both client-and staff- care procedures. We are educating our staff and clients and focusing on proactive prevention. ⠀
Many of those we serve are elderly, some with compromised health. The potential impact of this virus to the population we serve cannot be understated.⠀
In order to provide the continuing, essential services to our community, we will need to replenish supplies throughout the next few months. With these anticipated needs in mind, we appreciate any contributions to support our work through these challenging times. Please contact Debra Truchon at 202-559-4514 or [email protected] to learn more about supporting U.S.VETS – Washington D.C. during this time or visit the link above.⠀
As the world seeks to adapt to implement social distancing, we are keenly aware that those who experience homelessness are typically faced with social isolation on a daily basis. In the face of this health concern and increased threat to those living outside, U.S.VETS wants those we serve to know they are not in this alone.⠀
Our work relies on community, connection, and working together. The service of our veterans to our nation has taught us that banding together to face our enemy is the only way to defeat it. Together, we will get through this. On behalf of our U.S.VETS-Washington D.C. team, sending wishes for good health, and our thanks for your continuous support. #ServeThoseWhoServed #USVETSDC
