Happy 4th of July...and be safe this weekend.

Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence over 17 days in June, 1776. John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and the rest of the Committee of Five make 47 changes to the document. Jefferson then delivers a draft of the declaration on June 28. Congress edits the document, cutting a quarter of the words, making an additional 39 changes.

What have you worked on that has been changed by someone else?

In case you were wondering...

According to our math rangers, 8.25 MILLION cubic feet of snow fell on the memorial plazas, roads, sidewalks and parking lots that make up the National Mall (presuming a 20" snowfall throughout the city). So just how big a project is it to clear all that away?

To put it into perspective, that amount of snow would fill the interior of the Washington Monument more than 18 times! And when we're done, we will have moved nearly 62,000 tons of snow - a total that's 1.6 times heavier than the entire Lincoln Memorial!

2016 Student Affairs Job Hunt

Bloggers Wanted: StudentAffairs.com recruits graduate students to write a weekly Student Affairs Job Hunt blog. This year we are going to do something different. Instead of one or two graduate students being selected we are going to open participation in the 2016 Student Affairs Job Hunt blog to EVERYONE! Any graduate student can submit to the blog, which will then be posted with attribution or anonymously--your choice. Interested graduate students can start submitting now. http://sa2016jobhunt.blogspot.com

This is the 11th year StudentAffairs.com has asked graduate students, going through their first job search process, to share their thoughts and feelings and chronicle their ups and downs as they pursue their initial student affairs position.

Each year, college presidents, provosts, deans and other senior administrators hire researchers from the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education, where I serve as executive director, to spend three to four days on their campuses conducting what feels like nonstop focus groups with students of color and their white peers about the realities of race on campuses.

Building Advising Bridges to Support Student Transitions (Krystal Dains, George Mason University) - Advising transfer students can be tough work. Many arrive on our campuses expecting to receive ALL of the credits, only to find out that many credits are lost in the transfer. How can advisors work with students from the very beginning of the transfer process to decrease students’ feelings of dissatisfaction? Building Advising Bridges to Support Student Transitions will provide you with the tools you need to create a comprehensive transfer advising process that will increase student satisfaction, aid the transfer advisors at both the community college and the 4-year institution, and simplify the transfer advising process for all involved.
