In the wake of the #Watergate Scandal, the Presidential Records Act of 1978 changed the legal ownership of the official records of the President from private to public and established a new statutory structure under which Presidents must manage the records of their Administrations.. Lee White of the National Coalition for History talked about the Act and former President Trump’s handling of White House records:

This #PreservationMonth, we are highlighting PEC projects that have protected historic places around Virginia’s Piedmont. Wilderness Battlefield was the site of the first major battle of the Union offensive toward the Confederate capitol, Richmond, known as the Overland Campaign, in 1864. One of the bloodiest and chaotic Civil War battles in Virginia, the engagement ended in tactical draw, with especially heavy casualties on the Union side, but marked the beginning of Union dominance that brought the Civil War to an end one year later.
In 2008, Walmart proposed to build a Supercenter near the intersection of Routes 3 and 20, right at the edge of the Wilderness Battlefield in Orange County, Virginia and adjacent to the Wilderness Tract of the Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park. The 52-acre proposed Walmart site was critical to telling the story and the sprawling commercial development would dramatically impact the experience of visitors to the national battlefield park.
PEC was one of the first groups to call attention to this alarming proposal and joined forces with other preservation organizations to form the Wilderness Coalition. Over 250 historians urged that the store move to an alternate site and the site made multiple “Most Endangered” lists. Still, Orange County approved the special use permit for the store in August 2009. Preservationists went on to challenge this decision in court. A strong case was built that Orange County had acted improperly -- among other ways, by disregarding evidence of the site's historic significance and by holding a Planning Commission vote at an illegal, unpublicized meeting.
But on the day the trial was to begin, January 26, 2011, the judge read the following statement from Walmart: “We have decided to preserve the property near the Wilderness Battlefield in Orange County, Virginia, that was approved by the Board of Supervisors for a new store. We will still buy the land, but not develop it. We appreciate Orange County's business-friendly nature, and we are committed to building a store in the county to serve customers in this area. We look forward to beginning talks within the next 30 days about a new site along the Route 3 corridor.” Walmart ultimately donated the property to the Virginia Department of Historic Resources in 2011 and selected another site further north along Route 3, further from the battlefield.

Please help! History should not have a price tag! 24$ to visit 9/11 Memorial in NYC. How is an inner city child, such as I was, ever going to afford such nonsense. I have been that child turned away because a history museum was too expensive. Please help, lets make a trust for children so they are never turned away. History, in my belief, should never have a monetary value (IE: W.H. Hunley). I do not know how to organize such an entity, but I would dedicate the rest of my life to preserve and protect the ethical ideals that history offer all, equally. To pursue opportunity for children to see, feel and stand in some of our most historical locations in our Nations history, never having to pay exorbitant, profiteering fees due to corporate greed.
With deepest regards
In January 2018 nearly all of the National Park System Advisory Board, the citizen panel that advises on National Park Service issues, resigned in frustration after Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke ignored repeated requests to hold meetings. The American Historical Association has endorsed a recent letter from the National Coalition for History to Secretary Zinke objecting to his refusal to engage with the board and calling for its reconstitution and the resumption of regular meetings. America’s first fireworks display:
On July 4, 1783, Congress asked Thaddeus Kosciuszko, the architect of Fortress West Point, to stage an “illumination” to celebrate the end of the hostilities of the American Revolution. Kosciuszko was a master engineer and an expert of pyrotechnics.
Happy Birthday America
