The uniform is part of who you are, but I don’t believe it was ever meant to become all of who you are.

Your service will shape you, challenge you, change you, and always be part of your story. But beyond the rank, the title, and the job, you still need to know who you are at your core.

One day, the uniform comes off. Just make sure you know the person underneath it ♥️

Being a woman in the military, or any male-populated field, brings unique challenges.

I never questioned the way I dressed, looked, or carried myself as a woman. I never wondered if being feminine would change how people viewed my intelligence, my capability, or whether I belonged somewhere. It wasn’t until I joined the military that I started to become painfully aware of it.

I was consistently told I was “too girly” or didn’t “look the part” for the job I wanted. Over time, it made me self conscious of something I had never been before. Being a woman.

So I started diminishing the parts of myself that made me feel feminine. I slowly erased them because it felt like what I needed to do to survive in the environment I was in.

Women in these fields live under a microscope. There are constant rumors, assumptions, or people trying to explain away your success as anything other than the fact that you are really damn good at what you do.

For a long time, I let that affect me. Until one day I decided I wasn’t going to anymore. The younger version of me deserved to feel safe enough to exist exactly as she was.

So I let her come back. I stopped believing I needed to erase those things for my strength to be taken seriously.

At the end of the day, that matters more.

I have watched many women dim their light to hide pieces of themselves just to blend in and be “one of the guys.”

If that is who you are, embrace it. But if it isn’t, don’t lose yourself trying to become someone people can digest easier.

I’ve witnessed women enter the next chapter not knowing who they are because survival required them to leave pieces of themselves behind. I never want that for another woman.

You are allowed to be a woman. You are allowed to take up space without becoming harder to prove you deserve to be there.

None of that diminishes your intelligence, discipline, or capability. And it sure as hell doesn’t diminish your ability to walk into your field and absolutely crush it.

So when the boots come off, wear the damn heels if you want to. Not because you have anything to prove. But because you should never have to become less of a woman to prove how powerful you are as one.

Hey, I’m Tiffany! (Also known as Chief Z)

I’m the eldest daughter. I’m extremely passionate, goofy (around those I’m comfortable with), I wear my heart on my sleeve, I sometimes care too much, and I’m very direct. I also care deeply about mental, emotional, and physical health. I love working out, being outdoors, and taking on new physical challenges.

I’m proudly a SERE Specialist in the United States Air Force. My beret is pewter green, and yes, it signifies my job. No, I’m not too young to be a Chief. I’ll be 40 in two months. Yes, those are Static Line and Military Freefall Jumpmaster badges that I earned at Army jump schools. I was also a qualified Air Force Test Parachutist. I’ve been in the military for 19 years. No, I’m not retiring anytime soon.

No, this is not AI. Yes, the picture is inverted because it was taken with the selfie camera.

Yes, I wear makeup in uniform. Yes, it’s within regulations. Yes, my face is very glowy. I get it from my mama and by taking care of my skin, which is probably why so many of you think I’m too young to be a Chief.

I think that answers most of the questions I get on a daily basis! Have a great weekend!

A goal I had before turning 40 was to reconnect with some of the people who have meant so much to me over the years.

Being in the military, you meet so many incredible people along your journey, and one of the hardest parts is leaving them behind as you start a new chapter. The beautiful thing is that some relationships never skip a beat. We can go years without talking and pick up right where we left off.

These women have each played a unique role in my life over the past 9–14 years, and I hope they’ll continue to be part of my life for many more years to come!

Thank you to each of you for being a bright light in my life in your own unique way. I’m so grateful this journey brought us together, and I’ll always be cheering you on wherever life takes you ♥️

Back in June, the Air Force rolled out the Performance Objectives and Feedback Form (AF Form 717), replacing the Airman Comprehensive Assessment. This is now the required form for all formal feedback sessions.

So, what’s changed? The new form is built around the four Major Performance Areas: Executing the Mission, Leading People, Managing Resources, and Improving the Unit. It also places a bigger emphasis on communication, with a dedicated “Getting to Know You” section to encourage conversations about your professional and personal goals.

Another key addition is the Ratee Expectations section, which gives Airmen the opportunity to tell their supervisor what they need to succeed. The goal is to make feedback a two-way conversation that focuses on growth, development, and setting clear expectations instead of just checking a box.

Have you had a chance to use AF Form 717 yet? If so, what are your thoughts?
