01/17/2019

The District of Columbia Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) announced that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has certified the implementation of the District’s Medicaid Data Warehouse (MDW). This certification includes the approval of a 75 percent Federal Financial Participation (FFP) for costs associated with the operation of the Medicaid Data Warehouse retroactive to its implementation on September 30, 2017.

The District’s Medicaid Data Warehouse is a repository for all District of Columbia Medicaid claims data. Due to ever expanding datasets, DHCF’s legacy system could no longer provide efficient access to the files or support the rigorous algorithms regularly constructed to analyze data. The MDW was designed to address substandard data query capabilities; limited reporting tools; restricted access to historical claims data; and an inability to simultaneously pull data from multiple files. The MDW system offers enhanced functionality and tasks that once took days have been compressed into minutes. The MDW provides rapid access to at least 12 years of historical Medicaid and Alliance claims data; interactive reports and dashboards that allow staff to immediately query multiple years of data; pre-built subject-specific reports and dashboards that allow the end-user to select data using a variety of filters and then efficiently array the data by any number of program or patient variables.
