MANA joins in mourning the great loss of storied Latino leader, Ronald Blackburn-Moreno, President and CEO of ASPIRA Association. "The strategy of modern Latino leadership in the nation, through coalitions such as HACR - Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility and the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, has been influenced by Ron Blackburn-Moreno over decades of service. His leadership, counsel, mentorship, and friendship are already missed, but Ron's legacy will continue to be felt for generations to come," said MANA President and CEO, Amy Hinojosa.

The Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) mourns the unexpected passing of its longtime board treasurer and former board chair Ronald Blackburn Moreno, who passed away on November 4, 2021. Blackburn Moreno was the board designate on the HACR board of directors, representing Aspira Association, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit organizations focused on empowering the Latino youth community through advocacy, education, and leadership development. The more than 450,000 alumni of ASPIRA programs around the country are known affectionately as ‘Aspirates’.

Blackburn Moreno had served as a member of the HACR Board of Directors since 1994, the same year he joined Aspira as its President & CEO. He was a dedicated contributor to the HACR board for over 27 years in various executive board roles, including chair, treasurer, and secretary. He will be remembered as a legendary leader in HACR's history of advancing Hispanic inclusion in Corporate America. https://bit.ly/3kmaObQ #youthdevelopment #corporateinclusion #diversityequityandinclusion #boricua #puertorican #nonprofits

Live Updates: House Democrats Push Forward on Infrastructure but Delay Social Spending Plan

We are closely watching for the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. Latino communities and all communities in need will benefit greatly from this law. A $65 billion investment in providing broadband access will connect families, allow for education opportunities, jobs and business opportunities, and keep families connected to critical health information as it becomes available. MANA has advocated for the passage of this bill and especially for the broadband provisions that will equal the playing field for so many of our families nationwide. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/11/05/us/biden-spending-infrastructure-bill

House leaders said they would hold a procedural vote that would allow a vote on the $1.85 trillion social spending and climate bill sometime in the future, with hopes of passing it by Thanksgiving. They said they planned to vote on the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill on Friday to send it....

Congratulations, Mr. Mayor-Elect! We are proud to have Michael A Padilla as an hermano and look forward to his leadership in Topeka! MANA de Topeka

Good morning, Topeka! I thought I might share my speech from last night and take a moment to thank my opponent for running a great race.

Running any campaign race is very tough and I appreciate his hard work! Check out my speech below.

—-

“Tonight we are here to celebrate the power of the vote and all the citizens of Topeka who wanted to have a say in who would best represent them for this important election. I am very grateful for those who have supported me and gladly commit to serving all of Topeka’s citizens and the future of Topeka.

It has been a privilege to serve on the city council as Deputy Mayor and I thank my colleagues as well as Mayor De Las Isla for the progress we have made as we serve the community.

I have always loved our city and I’ve taken many an oath to her. After serving for 34 years on the Topeka Police Department I was determined that I would continue to work hard to positively impact our community. My vision is to have our economic development thrive because of population retention and growth. An energized wholistic and inclusive effort on public safety is something we all need to work towards as well. I also know equitable economic opportunities to encourage small business growth while attracting larger businesses at the same time is another goal. Most importantly, is that we as a city serve everyone with an intentional effort to be inclusive and that the governing body does all it can to serve all in our community.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to my wife Veronica, for her encouragement and support. To my campaign manager and friend Will Naeger and to my creative media manager and advisor Jennifer Goetz, I also send a heartfelt thank you. I must also thank my mother Rose and father Miguel for instilling in me the desire to serve. And, to all my family and friends and the voters who have given me this privilege to be your next mayor.

Thank you.”

We are poised to get an incredible increase in broadband investment for our communities when the U.S. House of Representatives passes the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act passed by the Senate. We know our Latino families need this investment to close the digital divide, close the homework gap, and give our families the opportunity to access education, critical health information, and job opportunities. Thanks to the leadership of champions in Congress, such as Whip James E. Clyburn, the futures of our under-served communities will be revolutionized.

Hey MANA! Do you know of anyone looking to complete a medical assistant, or computer degree quickly? We are placing our graduates with jobs in 7 months and are able to provide a lot of financial assistance so they can reach their goals!
One of our own wise Latinas is running for office in Washington, DC. She was born in Columbia, raised in the Lower East Side of NYC, and moved to DC when she got a scholarship to attend Georgetown University for law school. She is civil rights attorney and has been working hard for our families ever since. If you live in DC, learn about her by clicking below and spread the word. If she wins, she would be the FIRST immigrant and the FIRST Latina to represent DC. I have known her for 20 years and will be voting for her. I hope you will too!

Seeking LATINA Veterans/Active Duty Servicewomen for Research Study Interviews My name is Teresa Daniell and I am currently working on my dissertation, which will focus on Latina Veterans and Latina active duty service women and how they discuss their identity. I will investigate the terms Latina veterans/servicewomen use to identify themselves and what experiences and roles helped shape their sense of identity as well as their attitudes, opinions, and beliefs about their status as Latina veterans or active duty military members. This study has been approved by the University of Maryland Baltimore County Institutional Review Board. Very little information on Latina servicewomen and veterans is available and my purpose for this study is to facilitate more awareness of this population that has historically been marginalized and largely opaque to mainstream American culture. I am recruiting Veterans or servicewomen currently on active duty who self-identify as Latinas and who have served in any branch of the military for at least two years and are 21 years of age or older. I am asking participants to discuss their experiences in the military in face to face or Skype interviews approximately 60 to 90 minutes long. The interviews will be audio recorded, however, I will take various measures to ensure confidentiality. Only pseudonyms will be used on the transcribed data unless permission to do so is granted by you as the participant. Also, participants may request to be removed from the study during or after the interview. The interviews will take place at a date, time, and location of the participant’s convenience. Please contact me at [email protected] if you are interested in participating in this study or for more information. I also have a blog that provides information on this study if you are interested in reviewing that at latinavets.wordpress.com.

Today at 11:39am https://www.gofundme.com/9347qp-oh-woma… Good Morning, I wanted to bring to your attention a University of Central Florida capstone project that was chosen to reflect the struggles of a young Latina woman in Florida in 1910. It is not a view that is often portrayed. The director has partnered with One Heart for Women and Children which is an organization that helps homeless women and children. For each $25.00 donation members of the film crew will donate an hour to help with food, hygiene supplies, education and counselling. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

PASOS DESTEMPLADOS another noir fiction of Alejandro Marin blog: cortemoslacarajo.blogspot.com A murder that has taken place in the Argentine city of Rosario confronts Jordi Gonorria, an economist and cook and his friend Quito Verdudo, a retired police officer, with a new mystery. The drug trafficking that has infested Rosario, the never-quite-revealed secrets of na**sm in Argentina in the late '40s and international financial fraud, will set the backdrop to, and eventually elucidate, their investigation. On the way, they will be joined by old friends, a blend of fictional, picturesque and in-the-flesh characters who have left their footprints and the vicissitudes of the relationship between our economist and his new girlfriend. This lithe and riveting narration is packed with culinary stories and mouthwatering recipes, insightful reflections on today's economy and situations that will not cease to surprise the reader.
