Vida Senior Centers's Golden Years Choir was delighted to participate in the Music is medicine concert alongside with the incredible USPHS Commissioned Corps Music Ensemble, E.W. Stokes Steel Drums, Heatstroke, and NEA. A prime event organized by the US Department of Health and Human Services. Secretary Xavier Becerra welcomed the performers and delivered the remarks for the event!

We are humbled to have been part of this amazing event focused on the role music plays for Mental Health overall.

Today, "U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra met with leaders from national Latino civil rights, direct-service, and provider organizations to discuss how HHS can continue to partner with their organizations to improve health outcomes in the Latino community and further Latino health equity. This meeting builds upon a series of conversations and engagements between Latino community leaders and HHS.
Our president and CEO Maria Teresa McPhail, was part of the round table in addition to other Latino Community Leaders.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast cancer affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, but it is essential to recognize the specific additional challenges that elderly individuals face when it comes to this disease.

As we age, our bodies become more susceptible to various health issues, including breast cancer. Age itself is a significant risk factor, and the likelihood of developing breast cancer increases as we get older. The elderly population not only battles the physical aspects of the disease but also faces unique social and emotional challenges throughout their journey.

Breast cancer awareness is vital for everyone, regardless of age. By understanding the risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of early detection, we can all take proactive steps to safeguard our health. Regular breast self-exams, clinical screenings, and mammograms are crucial for detecting breast cancer at its earliest stages, offering the best chances of successful treatment.

For the elderly population, navigating the complex healthcare system can be overwhelming. It is crucial to ensure that they have access to comprehensive healthcare services, including regular check-ups and screenings.

Support networks are essential for those battling breast cancer, regardless of age.

Elderly individuals may face unique challenges such as mobility issues, limited financial resources, and a lack of social support. It is crucial to promote awareness about organizations and resources available to provide assistance, such as transportation services, financial aid programs, and support groups specifically tailored to the elderly population.
