As Moderna plans to seek authorization of its COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 months - 5 years, Professor Rosa Baier and Vanessa Lamers of the Public Health Foundation, both moms of young kids, penned this CNN Opinion: "We want a vaccine for our kids . . . But we know waiting for the FDA's stamp of approval is a critical part of the process; when a vaccine is available for our young kids, we will rest assured that it has been thoroughly vetted."
This month John Novak, DMD, announced that Andrew Quarnstrom will be the organization’s new Executive Director. Quarnstrom brings over 25 years of experience in public health as paramedic and chief officer with the Champaign, Illinois fire department. In addition, Quarnstrom has served as the Township Supervisor in Champaign, Illinois since 2013 as well as a board member with the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District.
Quarnstrom brings institutional knowledge to his new position as he has previously served the NALBOH association as a board member for the last four years and most recently sat as past president of the NALBOH Board. Join NALBOH and the Public Health Foundation for a virtual town hall meeting on the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals (Core Competencies). The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) is in the process of reviewing and revising the Core Competencies, and this virtual meeting is an opportunity to provide feedback on how the Core Competencies can better serve the public health workforce. It is essential to consider what is being learned during the COVID-19 pandemic that needs to be considered as the Core Competencies are being updated.
