One of the world's most important conferences is starting this week in the heart of Switzerland, the World Economic Forum in Davos Klosters Mountains. But why Switzerland? Why do world leaders gather in this small town?
"Femme en Extase" is installed at the NPG
Witness the arrival and installation of Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler's "Femme en Extase" at the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution in this interesting video.
My wife Anita and I are honored that one of Switzerland’s most celebrated painters, Ferdinand Hodler, was chosen by the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution as the inaugural focus of its new “Portraits of the World” series. It shows how much we both value our longstanding relationship which spans back to the museum’s opening. We place such collaborations at the core of our diplomatic work, as they allow us to build bridges to our host country and its culture, to nurture synergies and to understand each other even better,

Swiss Touch at the US National Archives
#SwissTouch makes a stop at the Rotunda of the US National Archives, where the original American Constitution can be found. The Swiss Touch table was not only in this amazing venue, but also held a discussion about potential solutions for preserving the millions of digital data records produced on a daily basis from the U.S. and Swiss standpoints starting from the original American constitution to the million tweets sent everyday. The Film Festival Locarno (Official Page) 68th edition has just begun and I standing on the Piazza Grande waiting for the movies to begin!
This Festival has occupied a unique position in the landscape of the major film festivals. Every August, for eleven days the Swiss-Italian town of Locarno, right in the heart of Europe, becomes the world capital of auteur cinema. Thousands of film fans and industry professionals meet here every summer to share their thirst for new discoveries and a passion for cinema in all its diversity. I am more then happy to be here and be part of this exciting Swiss cultural event!
Today I am in #AuburnHill MI for the official inauguration and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Robot Manufacturing Factory of
ABB Robotics North America. ABB's investment in the U.S. is an excellent example of the impressive Swiss economic footprint in the U.S. With over $204 billion in direct investments, Switzerland ranks as the 6th largest foreign investor in America. Not only do Swiss companies directly create 450,000 U.S. jobs, they are also especially active in manufacturing and significantly outspend the affiliates of all other countries in research & development.
