Sponsored by Rotary International, Dupont Rotary is a service-oriented club comprised of 35+ committed individuals from the greater Washington, D.C. area, whose professional and service aspirations extend far beyond the confines of the Beltway. Since its chartering, the club has involved itself in numerous service projects at home and abroad--from partnering with local organizations in Washington

to participating in peace and conflict resolution initiatives with partnering Rotary Clubs in Uganda and fundraising for a footbridge to increase schoolchildren's access to education in Zimbabwe, Dupont Rotary's area of influence is anything but small.

Join us this Tuesday to hear from Thayma Sánchez as she speaks about how she brings awareness to important issues in Journalism, how to get people engaged on an effort or mission, and what makes stories compelling.

Thayma Sánchez is a digital editor and reporter at Telemundo 44/NBC Washington, where she produces and reports on local news, public policy and issues impacting the Latino community in the Washington, D.C., area. Originally from Puerto Rico, holds a master’s degree in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University, which complements her work covering the intersection of media, government and public policy. She especially enjoys using her work as a journalist to highlight community initiatives, amplify local voices and bring attention to people and organizations making a positive impact in their communities. When she’s not working, you can probably find her hunting for new coffee shops around the D.C. area.

Welcome to a new Rotary year!

As we support to Create Lasting Impact, our club theme this year—Do Good. Show Up. Have Fun.—is a simple expression of what I hope we will accomplish together in support of our collective Rotary goals. We are the small but mighty “happy hour” club in DC that strives for impact and to do good work through our service and relationships in the Dupont and wider Washington, DC community. 

Feel free to join us at meetings, events, service projects, happy hours, etc. all Rotary year long.

Jessica G. Smith Lennan is the Deputy Director of the 11th Street Bridge Park, a project of Building Bridges Across the River. She leads the external relations and community engagement strategies for multi-sector initiatives to advance equitable and community-driven development in Washington. As a native Washingtonian, she is passionate about creating greater economic opportunity through inclusive development and having resources that allow current Washington residents east of the Anacostia River to live in healthy and vibrant communities. As a Ward 7 resident, she served on the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board Citizen Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, raising awareness of transportation needs unique to residents living east of the Anacostia River. Jessica also serves on the
Anacostia Parks & Community Collaborative Steering Committee working with other community organizations to remove barriers that prevents residents from connecting to the park and river.

Prior to joining the Bridge Park, Jessica worked with the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District. As the Placemaking and Events Manager, she promoted economic growth and sustainability initiatives through programming and advocated for the needs of the community and local businesses. Jessica holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master’s Degree in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University.
