Phragmites, an invasive reed, were taking over in Fort Erie, Ont. Cutting them back has been a walk in the park for this small herd of goats.

Alberta is multiplying its fines for breaching regulations around boat ๐ฅ๏ธ inspections in an effort to crack down on invasive aquatic species such as quagga and zebra mussels ... Manitoba prohibits the possession of any wild crayfish. Minnesota forbids the release of live rusty crayfish into public waters.'
Rusty crayfish (Faxonius rusticus) are large, aggressive crayfish native to the Ohio River Basin. Likely introduced by anglers discarding unused bait from other regions, this species has established itself in the Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake, spreading widely across the basin. Their aggressive behaviour and voracious appetite enable them to outcompete native species, leading to a decline in biodiversity and native habitats. With females capable of carrying up to 200 fertilized eggs under their tails, just one introduction can spark a new population in a new area.

If you suspect you've come across an aquatic invasive species, document it by taking a photo, noting your location, and reporting it to your local invasive species organization. This action can help prevent further spread!

Summerland, British Columbia: Work on Trout Creek in the Okanagan will use a collaborative approach guided by Traditional Ecological Knowledge from the Penticton Indian Band.
