Just a little heads-up that Verizon representatives from Opus will be in our area for the next several weeks. Don’t be alarmed if you see people walking around and talking to residents without being in uniform. They’ll be in plain clothes but will have identification badges for presentation.

Stay informed, stay safe, and as always, don’t forget to thank a first responder!

🚨 Canton community🚨

Please be advised our area is operating under storm mode. We have high winds that are knocking out trees and power lines. If you can avoid driving, stay home, and do not burn!!

Several of our areas are without power and West Penn crews are out and probably will be for hours.

Dispatch is overwhelmed and first responders are spread thin at multiple calls.

Check on neighbors, stay home, stay safe!

As you may know we’ve been working the last few years to get our smoke alarm installation program up and running. We’ve received grants, given out free alarms at our events and are now excited to be partnering with the American Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania for their Sound the Alarm event!

On February 28, volunteers will be installing free alarms in Canton homes. Supplies are limited as is time, so please follow the information below to get yours!

See you on the 28th, and as always, don’t forget to thank a first responder!

🚒❄️Canton Community❄️🚒

What a week!! It’s been over a decade since we’ve seen snowfall hit our area the way it did last weekend. Disaster declarations were made all over the state due to Fern’s frozen wrath, but our supervisors, EMA coordinator, Joscsak, and road crews had emergency pre-plans in place for several scenarios and thankfully didn’t have to use them. THANK YOU for making sure we were ready for the worst!

Our road crews kept our roads as clear as possible throughout the storm and we had some of the best roads when the snow finally stopped blowing. Several community members have reached out to thank them for their hard work during the last several days so THANK YOU to our fantastic road crew!! Your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed!!

And of course, our first responders, who continued to serve the public in the thick of it and days after the initial hit. For the last several days our firefighters have taken to the streets to dig out fire hydrants and assist some of our more vulnerable citizens with snow removal. Showing that it’s not only when the tones go off, but everyday that they are here to serve our citizens. THANK YOU STATION 52!!

And finally, to the citizens who stayed off the roads, checked on neighbors, shared important updates and did what they could to help responders and road crews work with as little interference as possible, THANK YOU! Our township shut down and since you stayed home, we had more progress than problems and we truly appreciate it!

We made it through the snow, now to make it through the cold days ahead.

Stay safe, stay warm, and as always, don’t forget to thank a first responder!

🚨🚧🚨DISASTER DECLARATION!🚨🚧🚨

Due to the winter weather and several inches of quick falling snow expected beginning Saturday night through Monday afternoon, Canton Township supervisors and Emergency Management Coordinator, Joe Joscsak, have made a disaster declaration for our area.

🚧Travel is to be limited unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY after 9 p.m. tonight until Monday at 12 p.m. Any vehicles that are in working order and are parked on Canton roads during this time will be ticketed and towed at the owners expense. DO NOT PARK ON ROADS!

⚠️Plow trucks are to be considered emergency response vehicles during this time. Keep their routes clear as they try to manage the snowfall and keep roads somewhat accessible for emergencies.

⚠️If you have a vehicle emergency, get as far off the road as possible, put something in your window if you must leave the vehicle, and alert 911 of the location of your disabled vehicle.

⚠️If you have elderly or disabled neighbors, or know of neighbors who have limited communication, please check on them now to ensure they are prepared for the next several days while this storm is managed.

⚠️Power outages are possible, so make sure your devices and power banks are fully charged so you can report emergencies if needed. Information on where to report power outages can be found below.

⚠️If you have pets, limit their time outside as much as possible. If you have outside pets, bring them inside if able. If not, try to ensure they have an insulated shelter with protection from winds.

⚠️If you have an emergency, contact 911 and responders will be dispatched to you!

We will be working with our partners at WCDPS - Washington County Department of Public Safety PA Emergency Management Agency US National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA during this time and will monitor and manage changing situations as they arise.

Stay home! Stay safe! Stay prepared!
Don’t forget to thank a first responder!

🚨❄️🚨Canton Community🚨❄️🚨

We have been advised that there are several areas in and around our township that have some accumulated ice and slick roadways. Please use caution on roads that look wet as this may be black ice that is very dangerous.

We are following hazardous weather reports for our area. Current projections show we could receive between 5 and 8 inches, or more, between Saturday and Monday morning. The time to prepare for winter weather is now.

☑️ DO NOT PARK ON ROADS! Our road crews will be busy and need room to clear and treat the roads.

☑️ If you need supplies, get them now and avoid traveling during the snowfall periods.

☑️ If you have neighbors who may need assistance, help them out if you can.

☑️ If you have a vehicle emergency, get as far off the road as possible and call 9-1-1.

For more weather updates follow US National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA and WCDPS - Washington County Department of Public Safety.

Stay safe, and as always, don’t forget to thank a first responder! 🚒🚑🚔
