Yesterday the Stewart Elementary 2nd graders got to tour our ambulance and learn about EMS with our providers. It’s always a fun time teaching the kids and letting them learn first-hand about emergency medicine.

Our Kalona crew had some unexpected visitors today! Should we hire them to cut the grass?

Last week, our providers had the opportunity to learn from Dave Brouwer as he spoke about the Hamilton ventilators. Dave not only reviewed basic-application but also demonstrated adjustments to settings, gave recommendations for best use, and led us through critical-thinking exercises allowing us to familiarize ourselves further with this advanced machine. Thank you, Dave!

Congratulations to our crew members for being nominated for “The People’s Choice” award! On 9/10/25 WCAS — along with Brighton Fire, Brighton QRS, Washington Rescue, Washington Co. Sheriffs & Iowa State Patrol — were dispatched to a traffic accident resulting in a scene flight. Caitlin Tucker & Alexis Beswick with Air Evac 59 presented the award to the crew for their actions and treatments. Thank you to everyone for their cumulative efforts — Way to go, guys!

Throughout the month of November, our staff were asked to share what they were most thankful for... here are some of the responses (if you can't tell we really like our coffee!) And a special shout-out to Chelsea for the idea and putting it together - You are a joy to be around and we are so thankful for the work you do!

Thank you Washington County Riverboat Foundation for your generosity!

WCRF is pleased to announce Washington County Ambulance Service has been awarded a $14,568 grant!

This grant will help allow for the purchase of a new medication locker system to be used at their facility and help with operations. Congratulations!

The Washington County Riverboat Foundation is the nonprofit license holder for the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, which provides the entirety of its funding. In 2025 WCRF awarded 15 spring grants, 19 fall grants, 8 municipal, and 4 surprise grants totaling $6,466,279. Since 2006 WCRF has awarded over $76 million to local communities and non-profit organizations.

Please consider participating with your vote today!

"On November 4, 2025, the option to make Emergency Medical Services an essential service will be on the ballot for Washington County voters. If approved by 60% of voters, Washington County would join 21 other Iowa counties that have made EMS an essential service joining police and fire which are state mandated services. Currently, EMS is not a required public service in the counties which have not voted to make it essential.

The option on the ballot is to fund EMS up to seventy-five cents per thousand of taxable property valuations. The first year is set to be at fifty cents per thousand and the amount would be evaluated yearly and be recommended by the Washington County EMS Advisory Council, which is made up of 13 members from various public safety agencies, WCHC, BOS, community members and northern and southern city representatives.

This ballot option would bring the funding in line with other core public safety services."
