More than 30 carefully restored Arkansas landmarks and historic structures, including classic examples of Southern Greek Re

vival and Federal architecture, Gothic Revival, Italianate, and hand-hewn timber framing or brace-frame cottage construction, stand as a legacy to life in Washington from 1824 to 1900. Tour the public buildings and homes; see the remarkable collections of antiques, guns and knives; visit with the guides in period attire and ride the surrey on a tour of the various Arkansas historical sites in town for an unforgettable historic experience. There is nothing quite like pulling something out of a fire and shaping it into something real with your own hands. The Introduction to Forging Workshop at Historic Washington State Park runs Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21 from 9am to 4pm each day.

You will work alongside the park's skilled smiths at the forge, learning the fundamentals of blacksmithing and making actual art and functional objects from iron and steel. All tools and materials are provided. Minimum age is 16 and participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Class is limited to 3 people.
Cost is $200 per person.

Historic Dyeing 101: Cotton Edition
June 13th

Are you interested in historical dyeing methods? Join us on June 13th for a beginner's workshop focusing on 19th century dyeing techniques for plant fibers! From mordants and fixatives to dyes and dyebaths, you'll learn the entire process from start to finish. Each participant will have the opportunity to dye and take home two mini-skeins of 100% cotton to use in any of their future projects!
Aprons and gloves will be provided, but it is still recommended to wear clothes that may get stained. The class will break for an hour lunch.
$15 per person

“Hands-On” Candle Making Workshop
Join us at Historic Washington State Park’s Candle Shop and be part of a hands-on experience making candles and learning the history of candle making. Not only will you make your own creations, but you will take them home so everyone can enjoy the colors and fragrances of the candle that you create. The candle shop is one of the favorite tour sites within the park, for children and adults alike. Must be 12 years and older. Register by calling the park at 870-983-2684. *Will break for lunch.

Hooves through History at Historic Washington State Park

(WASHINGTON, Ark.) – Take the opportunity to learn more about the care of horses during Hooves through History on Saturday, June 6, at 1 p.m. Historic Washington State Park will offer a hoof care demonstration at the Simon T. Sanders Barnyard. Attendees will witness and discuss the methods used by 19th-century pioneers to keep their horses sound and in working condition.

Step into the shadows of history: Evening walking tour at Historic Washington State Park

(WASHINGTON, Ark.) - Spend an evening wandering through the shadows and pondering history at Historic Washington State Park on Saturday, June 6 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This guided evening walk along with a ride on the horse drawn surrey allows visitors to reflect on the past, as the intricacies of history, architecture, and the way of life and death are illuminated and explained. Each site visited will feature houses that have stood since the antebellum years.

Registration is required. Cost for attendance is $15 per person. Contact the park visitor center at 870-983-2684 to register.
