🇺🇸Wishing everyone a safe Memorial Day as we remember our fallen heroes. On this day we lean into gratitude as we think of the great sacrifice many made. We may never know all of these brave souls but let us honor their lives.🤍

On this day of remembrance we also want to take the time to send our condolences to the families and departments affected by the passing of firefighter Andrew Cross and firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr. They gave the ultimate sacrifice, may they rest in peace.🕊️

🚨IMPORTANT UPDATE🚨

A year ago, our role as a department reversed, and we turned to the community to help us. This was no small ask, but it was one of great magnitude as it would save the life of our very own Maggie Atkins. We cannot express how grateful we are for the way you all met this cry for help and did whatever you could to support Maggie and her family. At this time, we need to call on the community again.

At this point, Maggie’s care has been transferred to Boston. What this means for the community is that everyone who signed up to be donors will need to sign up again, but through this link for Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We know there were so many people who signed up, and we do not take this for granted, but we do need to ask this of you one more time. We want to emphasize that just because Maggie’s care is centered in Boston, it does not mean you have to travel to Boston for all the testing; much of the testing can be done locally.

We also want to stress that you do not, in fact, have to be the same blood type if you are passionate about donating. If this is the case, the donor team will coordinate a match with the same blood type as you, and once you donate to this person, Maggie can receive a voucher that allows her to receive a transplant from someone who does have the same blood type. If you were set on this before and found out you were not the same blood type, this is another great option that saves two lives.

As far as an update on Maggie’s condition, we wish we had better news. In the past year, Maggie has gone through complications that left her fighting for her life more than once. Sometimes the only thing you can do is fight, and we know her to do nothing less. She is currently on dialysis daily, which helps her to feel better; however, this is not a sustainable solution. She needs a kidney. Despite this, she is still giving back to her community, even though you may not see her in the ambulance or on the engine. We assure you she is heavily involved in the work behind the scenes, as many should know, it is nearly impossible to keep her from getting involved.

You can sign up to be a donor through this link, as well as review information on things offered for donors. Just some of these things include wage reimbursement, travel reimbursement, lodging reimbursement, and there’s much more. There are also three short videos at the bottom of the page that provide a great overview of donating and the support offered to you as the donor. It’s important to us that, as the donor, you would be well supported, and we feel Brigham and Women’s Hospital exudes that support. As always, you can reach out to us with any questions.

Share this link and let’s get Maggie a kidney!💚

Maggie Atkins is seeking a living kidney donor. Paired exchange may allow you to help even if you’re not a direct match. Confidential screening takes only a few minutes.

[Training] Monday night (4/27) Washington crews were dispatched to Atkins Family Sugar House for report of a subject possibly trapped in a pile of logs. Upon arrival crews located one patient trapped under logs not responsive but breathing. After a quick assessment of the area a second patient was discovered also unresponsive but breathing. Scene safety was evaluated and all machinery was secured.

Washington crews divided to treat both patients and requested Lempster's engine to the scene. Upon further assessment the first patient did not require lifting the logs and could be extricated through digging. The second patient was fully pinned and could not be moved without full extrication and stabilization of the logs. Extrication of the second patient could not begin until the first patient was removed due to the logs overlapping and concerns about stability. (Chief Atkins did in fact place the logs intentionally to test the situational awareness of crews to consider both patients at the same time). Crews requested a medic as well as DHART for the second patient.

Although this was training, everything in the scenario was run completely as an active emergency scene. Instructor Sam Atkins was the proctor for the second patient providing vitals and updates on the patient as interventions were performed. We were fortunate to have the first patient be a real life Bobby Crane who's acting was top tier and provided a patient to perform real vitals on and complete full physical assessments. Chief Atkins observed the entire scenario assessing and documenting how crews treated the patients, command decisions, scene safety, and communication.

After completing the scenario Chief Atkins and Instructor Atkins lead a discussion about the scenario. This allowed everyone involved to reflect and learn from areas that could have gone differently. Of course there was also emphasis on all the things that went very well. Trainings like this are the closest our members can get to the real thing, everyone did a great job and learned a lot. We are grateful for Chief Crane for being such a good sport and being a great trauma patient. Thank you to Lempster Fire Department, it's always a pleasure to work alongside everyone.

This afternoon (4/20) Washington ambulance 1, Washington utility 1, and Washington tractor 1, responded to an MVA on route 31.

A passerby drove to the station and reported a jackknifed tractor trailer about a mile south. The on duty ambulance crew responded and toned fire. Upon arrival the ambulance crew determined that there were no injuries and the tractor trailer was the only vehicle involved but the road was almost completely blocked.

Chief Atkins and some John Deere power was all that was needed to clear this incident. After a quick tractor pull the truck was back on the road and on its way. If John Deere would like to expand from the agricultural market and add heavy rescue to their potential clientele, give us a call here at Washington Fire and EMS. 😉🚜

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed the identity of the victim as Michael D. Paul, 71, of Windsor. Paul’s cause and manner of death are pending. The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.

INITIAL NEWS RELEASE: MAN DECEASED AFTER FIRE AT WINDSOR HOME

WINDSOR, N.H. – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey and Hillsboro Fire Chief Kenny Stafford Jr. announce that one person is deceased and a joint investigation is underway after a fire at a home in Windsor.

At 3:54 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, members of the Hillsboro Fire Department responded to Stone Circle in Windsor after a caller reported their neighbor’s home was smoldering. When the first responders arrived, they found a single-family home nearly burnt to the ground and learned that one person was unaccounted for.

Firefighters determined the fire had been active for a significant amount of time before they got to the scene, extinguished remaining hot spots, and began to search for the person reported missing.

Investigators with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office have responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. An adult male has been located deceased.

At this time, investigators do not believe the fire is suspicious. The name of the victim is being withheld pending an autopsy scheduled at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Members of the Hillsboro Fire Department are assisting investigators at the scene. Firefighters from Henniker, Deering, Antrim, and Washington also responded. No first responders were hurt during this incident.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is encouraged to contact the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office at (603) 223-4289 or [email protected].

Following the recent winter weather, the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office would also like to remind all residents and visitors to ensure their driveways and fire hydrants are clear of snow and ice in the event of an emergency.

No further information is available at this time.
