Heavy rainfall in Ghat, caused devastating floods, displacing hundreds and highlighting the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather. Thanks to emergency response training from USAID's Taqarib - تقارب activity, the Sabha Emergency Response Office provided 90 percent of the logistical support, including aid convoys and critical relief coordination. As climate change intensifies extreme weather, USAID’s work is helping Libyan communities to work together to better prepare for future crises.

Operated under USAID’s Enhanced Partnerships for Institutional Capacity (EPIC) activity, this initiative aims to help strengthen national capacities, enhance effective governance, and improve resource allocation in support of the Libyan people.

وقّعت الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية ووزارة التخطيط أمس في #طرابلس اتفاقية شراكة جديدة لتعزيز التعاون في تقوية أطر التخطيط والتنمية في #ليبيا. تندرج هذه المبادرة ضمن برنامج تعزيز الشراكات لبناء القدرات المؤسسية (EPIC) التابع للوكالة، وتهدف إلى تعزيز القدرات الوطنية، تحسين الحوكمة الفعّالة، وترشيد تخصيص الموارد لدعم الشعب الليبي.

Thanks to training she received from USAID’s Building Peace in Yemen program, Samar harnessed vital conflict resolution skills, including mediation techniques, the Do No Harm principle, and gender inclusion, to mediate a family dispute and exemplify community leadership in Al Dergag, . When a family land dispute arose, Samar took action. She organized a meeting to discuss the issue and advocated for a fair compromise that valued every voice. Her proactive approach not only resolved the conflict, but also earned her respect in her community as a peacemaker. Samar’s story demonstrates how USAID - US Agency for International Development empowers women leaders to create stronger community ties.

بفضل التدريب الذي تلقته من برنامج بناء السلام في اليمن التابع للوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية، استغلت سمر المهارات في حل النزاعات الحيوية، بما في ذلك تقنيات الوساطة، ومبدأ عدم الإضرار، وإشراك الجنسين، للتوسط في نزاع عائلي. لقد استخدمت سمر مثال القيادة المجتمعية في منطقة الدرجاج، اليمن . عندما نشأ نزاع عائلي على الأرض اتخذت سمر إجراءً حيث نظمت اجتماعًا لمناقشة القضية ودعت إلى تسوية عادلة تقدر الجميع. لم يحل نهجها الاستباقي النزاع فحسب، بل أكسبها أيضًا احترام مجتمعها كصانعة سلام. توضح قصة سمر كيف تعمل الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية على تمكين القيادات النسائية من خلق روابط مجتمعية أقوى.

On a recent trip to Murzuq, USAID witnessed the progress of recovery efforts following the 2019 conflict. Through the Global Fragility Act, USAID is supporting local businesses, including: a local factory owner who used a USAID grant to expand, hire more employees, and support the city’s construction boom; and a farmer who has increased crop yields and is reinvesting in his business thanks to a USAID- funded water pump.

With a $3.5M contribution to the Murzuq Reconstruction Program, USAID is helping families return home, revitalizing the economy, and fostering stability. Together, we’re paving the way for lasting peace and prosperity.

Gender-based violence violates human rights and limits civic, social, and political participation. To increase women’s participation in ’s peace and political processes, USAID - US Agency for International Development and the National Democratic Institute organized a workshop in Aden to bring together women from civil society organizations, government, and political parties and groups to develop a joint advocacy plan and launch a national women’s advocacy network. Efforts like these allow women in civil society organizations and women in politics to work together on a collective approach to advocacy.

Women and girls in Yemen’s rural areas often trek unsafe journeys for hours to collect drinking water. When women and girls have safe and reliable water security and sanitation services, it frees up more time for education and employment and reduces their vulnerability to gender-based violence. To increase access to safe water, USAID - US Agency for International Development and CARE build water collection points closer to communities. Better management of water resources means better health, nutrition, personal safety, and opportunity for women and girls.

USAID believes that addressing gender-based violence is critical to improving health outcomes. In , the Ministry of Public Health and Population and the USAID Integrated Health Resilience project trained more than 800 healthcare service providers on GBV. To mark the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV, the project also held 45 awareness sessions in three health facilities in the Aden, Lahj, and Taiz governorates to increase awareness about the implications of GBV and teach community members ways to prevent it.

To address the issue of violence against women and girls, ’s Social Peace Assembly, with support from USAID - US Agency for International Development and National Democratic Institute, organized a 16 Days of Activism awareness campaign called “Unite to End Violence Against Women in Hadramout.” The campaign actively engaged the community through an art exhibition and an awareness session at a children’s park, which included meaningful discussions and a theatre performance to highlight the importance of tackling this issue. Additionally, brochures were distributed to provide critical information and inspire action within the community. The campaign brought the community of Hadramout together to work toward creating a society where women’s rights are upheld, and violence is eradicated.

Assisting women to more fully support their families is a critical intervention that can greatly reduce the risk of . Since 2020, USAID’s Economic Recovery and Livelihoods Program has delivered training to 3,226 women across Yemen’s livestock, horticulture, honey, coffee, fishery, and handicraft value chains. USAID has also assisted 4,447 women farmers and agribusiness owners to access loans to support their business growth and has trained more than 129 female staff in Yemen’s banking sector. USAID support improves Yemeni women’s capacity to access credit, find sustainable jobs, and increase their economic resilience, making them far less likely to be victims of .

Seven graduates of USAID’s business development course presented their innovative business models to local investors, business leaders, and the Chamber of Commerce. Wafa Ahmed, owner of Sebha’s first female-owned money transfer office, Waha Swap, secured interest from five investors and formed a key partnership with Aldalel Aljadeed Center. Through these events, USAID is driving economic growth, reducing marginalization, and empowering entrepreneurs to build resilient, thriving communities in Libya.

At USAID, we believe that supporting girls’ education and women’s economic empowerment are crucial to eliminating . USAID - US Agency for International Development's non-formal education program for girls addressed a critical gap for those who had to drop out of school due to early marriage or other barriers. Using an accelerated curriculum with integrated life skills sessions, the program offered classes five times a week, four hours a day. Many of the students were young mothers seeking to continue their education. USAID also supported vocational training programs that equipped women with skills in tailoring, pastry, and beauty services. These programs provided young women with the tools and guidance to establish businesses, empowering them economically.

Gender-based violence prevents children from learning and thriving. USAID - US Agency for International Development provides education opportunities that are safe and empowering for girls in , including extracurricular activities like academic competitions and clubs that emphasize leadership skills and critical thinking. Academic competitions for girls from Lahj, Al-Dhale', and Aden gave participants the chance to travel, build confidence, and learn teamwork, while showcasing their intellectual abilities on a national stage​. Summer clubs also serve as safe environments for at-risk girls by providing psychosocial support, supporting confidence-building, and improving literacy and numeracy, reducing the likelihood of early marriage by keeping girls engaged in educational activities.

At USAID - US Agency for International Development , we believe that supporting girls’ education and women’s empowerment are crucial to eliminating . empowers girls in by increasing access to education and improving school facilities. USAID has supported the enrollment of more than 96,000 girls in formal and non-formal education and established more than 50 Girls Councils inside schools and non formal education centers to provide a safe platform for girls to discuss their concerns, challenges, and ideas.
