To our incredible community and the dedicated volunteers of the Northern Tazewell Fire Department,

For the past 75 years, it has been our profound honor to serve and protect this community. As we officially announce the closing of our department, we want to take a moment to look back and express our deepest gratitude.

To the countless volunteers who have worn this uniform over the decades: thank you. You sacrificed your time, your sleep, and your safety to answer the call when our neighbors needed help the most. Your bravery, resilience, and dedication are the very foundation of this department's legacy.

To our community: thank you for 75 years of unwavering support. Whether it was showing up to our events, sending words of encouragement, or simply trusting us in your times of need, your partnership has meant the world to us.

While our doors may be closing, the spirit of service and the bond we share with all of you will endure. It has been the honor of a lifetime to be your fire department.

Stay safe, and thank you for being part of our history.

Due to the misinformation that has been circulated about this matter, the Northern Tazewell Fire Protection District (NTFPD) would like to respond with the facts:

1. All discussions about the proposed contracts with the Washington Fire Department (WFD) and City of East Peoria Fire Department (EPFD) have been conducted in open session by the Trustees where the public has had a right to attend.
2. There is no truth to the rumor that the NTFPD must go to public referendum to outsource our fire and EMS services or sell assets as part of any contract for these services.
3. We only considered outsourcing our EMS and fire department services after it became clear that we will lack sufficient volunteers to safely staff the department into the future. Our primary goal is to serve the citizens of the NTFPD and we are only doing what many other departments have done and that is to create a “paper district” that will continue to levy taxes and pay other departments to provide services we are no longer able to provide due to a chronic lack of volunteers.
4. We have no intention of dissolving the NTFPD.
5. The public is invited to attend a meeting of the NTFPD on Tuesday, April 28th at 6 PM at the firehouse should they want to ask questions or provide input. There is a 5 minute limit (per person) on public comments.

Thank you.

Another Santa Parade in the books!!! The NTFD membership and their families hope we brought a little Christmas cheer to the area!
Unfortunately we did have some technical difficulties with our mapping and got a little off but we tried to make sure we hit all streets on the map. Remember these are our volunteers spending their time for free to bring Christmas joy. As always we here at NTFD hope you have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

It's one of our favorite times of year, when The North Pole's Head of Operations trades in his sleigh for a siren-equipped, red-hot ride!

Come see Santa Claus (and all his trusty firefighter elves) as we roll through the district for our annual parade! He's checking his list, and yes, he knows if you were bad or good at fire safety this year! 😉

Date: Saturday, December 20th
Time: 4:30 PM

P.S. Keep an eye out for the guy in red—we've told him not to use the Jaws of Life to open presents, but no promises.

For training this week NTFD joined multiple other departments in a joint training on rural fire water supply put on by Washington Fire. Dozens of firefighters came out from NTFD Washington Mackinaw Morton and Deer Creek. It was a great chance for all departments to try a new way to provide water in areas without fire hydrants.

Update: Burn Ban has been lifted.

Conditions are still favorable for very rapidly spreading wildfires this week. We ask that you continue to refrain from any burning of yard waste or other fires and avoid flicking ci******es out your window.

We appreciate your continued cooperation.

Update: Burn Ban has been lifted.

Due to extremely dry conditions and a high fire danger index, the Northern Tazewel Fire Protection District is enacting a Burn Ban effective immediately for our entire district

This means NO outdoor burning of any kind is permitted, including:
❌ Open burning (brush, leaves, debris)
❌ Campfires and bonfires
❌ Tiki torches and similar outdoor flame devices

We understand this may be an inconvenience for some, but the potential risks are too great. The current dry weather and low humidity mean that fires can:

1. Start Easily: Even a small spark or ember can quickly ignite dry grasses and leaves.
2. Spread Rapidly: Wind can push flames across large areas in minutes, making containment extremely difficult.
3.Threaten Homes and Lives: An uncontrolled fire puts our community's property, safety, and the lives of our firefighters at unnecessary risk.

We will continue to monitor the weather and ground conditions closely. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our community safe!
