🗓️ Coming this Wednesday, June 24th!

🦅 11:00 am: Sylvan Heights Bird Park: When Dinosaurs Took Flight

Join us as we delve into the world of paleontology and dinosaurs. Meet a live feathered friend, who might be a dinosaur in disguise! You may not look at the birds in your backyard the same way again. All ages family program!

🦖 Immediately after program until gone*:

Kids: Dino Crafts (12 & under)
Teens: DIY Rock Candy (12 - 18)
Adults: DIY Geode Windchime (18 & up)

(1 kit per person. Supplies are limited. First come, first serve. Groups and organizations must call in advance.)

🪽 2:30 pm: Genealogy Coaster & Dinosaurigami

Bring a photo of a loved one, and we will make a copy of your photo to put on a coaster. We will also be practicing Dinosaur Origami! (Ages 12 - 18, registration required)

Supported by NC Humanities and a wealth of local partnerships, including the library, this project collects first-hand experiences and memories of Beaufort County's Black community, aiming to preserve them for future generations.

Also known as Jubilee Day, Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, and Black Independence Day, Juneteenth originates from Galveston, Texas, and has been celebrated annually on June 19th in various parts of the United States since 1865. Juneteenth was recognized as an official federal holiday in 2021, becoming the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was adopted in 1983.

We will also be closed Saturday, June 20th, for maintenance. We will reopen on Monday, June 22nd, at 9 am and resume our usual operating hours.

It might've been toasty, but that didn't stop us from kicking off our 2026 Summer Library Program with a roar! 🦖

Thank you to everyone who braved the heat - nearly 200 of you! 🤩 Pamlico Joe and Clean Water Flow put on an amazing show, Pelican Snoballs served up the perfect beat-the-heat treat, and a lot of dinosaur eggs went home with their new families. (Did yours hatch yet? 👀)

And a huge thank you to our staff and volunteers! Events like these wouldn't be possible without your dedication, effort, and sweat (literally!).

We can't wait to have even more fun with all of you throughout the summer! Don't forget to check our calendar for all of our upcoming events.
