Washington Volunteer Fire Department The Washington Fire Department is a 100% volunteer organization that provides fire and EMS services to the Town of Washington and a portion of Orange.

The Washington Fire Department (WFD) covers the Town of Washington and a 6 square mile section of the neighboring town of Orange. We operate out of one central, 3 bay station located in the village. The station houses 5 pieces of apparatus which includes, 2 engines, 2 tankers, and 1 utility pick-up. The WFD runs about 50 calls per year with one third of them being calls that require mutual aid, mo

stly for building fires in neighboring towns. We currently have 25 members on the department that are Firefighter I, Firefighter II, or department trained certified. The WFD is an active member of the Capital Fire Mutual Aid System which is comprised of over 35 departments and organizations in the central Vermont area. Weekly Wednesday meetings at fire station normally consist of a business meeting, vehicle checks, and training sessions.

Washington Fire Department responded with Engine 2, Tanker 1, Utility 1, and 6 personnel to assist Williamstown Fire for an an active structure fire this afternoon. Units were on scene for an hour and a half assisting with fire suppression, overhaul and water supply.

At 1300hrs the Williamstown Fire Department was dispatched to a reported chimney fire with possible extension on Pierre Rd. At 1302 it was reported the owner was attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. At 1305 Williamstown K3 arrived and reported fire through the roof. Chief Graham requested mutual aid to start. The fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries. Thank you to Barre Town Fire Department & Washington Fire Department as well as Brookfield and Northfield Fire Departments for making the start over before being canceled.

Washington Fire Department responded with Engine 2, Tanker 1 and Utility 1 with a total of 7 personnel to assist Barre Town with this large scale fire that resulted in a tragic outcome. Washington units were on scene for over 8 hours assisting with fire suppression, water supply, and extensive overhaul.

Washington Fire Department is currently operating on the multi alarm warehouse fire in East Barre. Power is out in Washington due to the fire with an unknown time until power is restored.

This morning at 8:17 am, the Washington Fire Department received a request to assist the East Randolph Fire Department with a multi-alarm residential building fire. Tanker 1 and Utility 1 responded with a crew of 5 personnel. While on scene, Washington was requested to divert to assist the Vershire Fire Department with a reported kitchen fire. Upon arrival at the Vershire scene, Tanker 1 and Utility 1 found fire in a multi-unit residential building and provided water supply support by pumping water to engines on scene, with the fire eventually escalating to a 4 alarms. Over the course of 7 hours, Tanker 1 pumped over 100,000 gallons of water, supported by mutual aid departments from Vermont and New Hampshire, spanning over 25 miles. All Washington units returned to the station by 5:00 pm.

1ST ALARM BARN FIRE

At approximately 3 a.m. Washington fire was dispatched to a fully involved barn fire. A first alarm was transmitted bringing in mutual aid from Barretown , Williamstown and Chelsea fire depts. crews worked diligently in the -15 degree weather to bring the fire under control in about an hour. Building is considered a total loss .
