The City of Washington Police Department is accepting applications for Entry-Level Police Officer positions!

💰 NEW-HIRE PAY SCALE
• Year 0–1: 90% of Patrolman Salary
• Year 1–2: 95% of Patrolman Salary
• After Year 2: 100% of Patrolman Salary
• 2028 top Patrolman rate: $75,656.42
• Overtime opportunities available

👮 EXPERIENCED OFFICERS
New hires with more than 3 years of continuous full-time police service at another law-enforcement agency will receive 90% of Patrolman Salary during their first year and move to 100% thereafter.

🎓 ACADEMY TUITION REIMBURSEMENT
New hires who completed a police academy within the past 3 years and personally paid academy tuition may qualify for reimbursement in four equal 25% installments after years 2, 3, 4, and 5 of service, subject to the applicable service commitment.

📋 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, a United States Citizen, a high school graduate or equivalent, possess a current valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License, and maintain Pennsylvania residency with no living restriction.

Must be ACT 120 certified OR currently enrolled in ACT 120 certification training and have passed the final examination to accept employment. All eligible candidates will remain on the list if haven't completed the final examination.

Applicants are subject to the Civil Service hiring process, including background checks, drug testing, physical agility testing, written and oral examinations, psychological examination, and physical examination.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY – SOUTH MAIN STREET CLOSURE

The City of Washington Police Department would like to advise residents and motorists of an upcoming long-term road closure associated with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) culvert replacement project on South Main Street.

Beginning Monday, July 13, 2026, South Main Street will be closed near its intersection with Park Avenue for approximately 12 weeks. The closure is expected to remain in place until late September 2026.

The closure is necessary to allow crews to replace the existing culvert beneath the roadway as part of a $2.25 million infrastructure improvement project. In addition to the culvert replacement, the project includes roadway resurfacing, curb, sidewalk, and gutter improvements.

PennDOT will have detour signs posted throughout the area to assist motorists.

Following the completion of the full closure phase, additional lane restrictions may occur for final paving, utility work, and project completion activities through early November.

Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes, allow additional travel time, and use caution when traveling near construction zones.

The City of Washington Police Department appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as these improvements are completed.

The City of Washington Police Department would like to advise residents and motorists of upcoming traffic restrictions that will occur over the next 48 hours.

South Main Street Closure
- Beginning Friday, July 10, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., South Main Street will be closed between East Maiden Street and Wheeling Street.
- This closure will remain in effect until approximately 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

Main Street Closures from Wheeling Street to Beau Street
Friday, July 10, 2026
- Main Street from Wheeling Street to Beau Street will be closed beginning at 9:00 a.m.
- The intersection is anticipated to reopen by 12:00 p.m. the same day.

Saturday, July 11, 2026
- Main Street from Wheeling Street to Beau Street will be closed beginning at 10:00 a.m.
- The intersection is anticipated to reopen by 11:00 a.m.

Important Information
- Wheeling Street will remain open to cross traffic throughout the entire 48-hour period.
- Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes, expect delays, and exercise caution while traveling through the area.

We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation while these temporary traffic restrictions are in place.
