On Wednesday, district and school leaders participated in Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) training led by Kimberly Cook, Homeland Security Area 1 Coordinator with Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security (GEMA/HS), with support from Dave Shanks, Targeted Violence Prevention Homeland Security Coordinator.

The training provided leaders with practical strategies for identifying, assessing, and responding to potential threats while reinforcing our commitment to maintaining safe, supportive learning environments.

Thank you to GEMA/HS, Kimberly Cook, and Dave Shanks for sharing their expertise and helping strengthen school safety efforts in Wilkes County Schools.

It’s that time of year again - Seamless Summer Meals are here! The Wilkes County School Nutrition Department is excited to once again provide meals for our school children, as well as any child 18 years old and younger in our community.

Throughout May, June, and July, summer meals will be available at various locations throughout Wilkes County. Please reference the attached flyers for specific meal sites, dates, and serving times.

On Thursdays at participating community locations, children will also receive 3 breakfast meals and 3 lunch meals to take home for the weekend.

Please note: Participation in the Summer Camp at the Parks and Recreation Department requires an application. Families interested in the summer camp program should complete the required application process with the Parks and Rec department.

Reminder: The Seamless Summer Meal Program is available only for children 18 years old and younger. Unfortunately, meals cannot be provided for adults.

We look forward to serving our community this summer!

Our 8th grade students were rewarded for their outstanding behavior this semester! They earned the fewest number of write-ups in the middle school and celebrated with a trip to Stars & Strikes in Augusta for bowling and arcade games. 🎳🎮

They had an absolute blast, and we are so proud of the example they have set this year. Great job, 8th grade!

🗣️✨ Shoutout to the BEST speech-language pathologist around — our very own Mrs. Johnson! 🐯❤️

Every single day, Mrs. Johnson works her magic, helping our Tigers find their voices, build their confidence, and communicate with the world. Her patience, dedication, and genuine love for every student she works with is something truly special.

We are SO lucky to have her as part of the Washington-Wilkes Middle School family! 🧡

Thank you, Mrs. Johnson, for everything you do — seen and unseen. Our students are better communicators, better learners, and better people because of YOU! 🙌
