“These persons willingness to act in a time of crisis reflects the very best of our community and deserves our sincere appreciation.”
🚒 Seven persons heroic actions were recognized at the Monday, June 15, 2026 Washington City Council meeting:
👏🏼Logan, Kelsey and Claire, after calling 911, began safely evacuating residents from the Chapters Assisted Living facility fire on May 30, 2026.
👏🏼 Brandon, Clayton, Karl and Daniel - firefighter and paramedic early on the scene - used a ladder brought over by neighbors - to evacuate persons from the second floor of an apartment building that was on fire located on School Street behind Casey’s on May 31, 2026.
“While I understand there is risk that I may not know or mention every individual who deserves recognition and I apologize for any inadvertent omissions, it would be equally inappropriate to allow these acts of courage and selflessness to go unrecognized publicly.” Mayor Lilija Stevens
Coincidentally, this week is Certified National CNA Week/National Nursing Assistants Week. I thank Laura Tutskey, HR Director at Washington Senior Living, for communicating gratitude to CNA’s who responded immediately during the May 30th fire at Chapters, across the street from Washington Senior Living welcoming dozens of displaced Chapters residents.
