At last night's City Council meeting, the City of Washington recognized seven individuals whose service, dedication, and courage reflect the very best of our community.
🎖️ The evening began with recognition of Finance Director Joanie Baxter upon her retirement after more than 31 years of dedicated service to Washington. Throughout her distinguished career, she provided steady leadership and sound financial stewardship. Her professionalism, institutional knowledge, and commitment to public service have left a lasting impact on the City of Washington.
🔥 The Council also recognized three young Washington residents for their extraordinary actions during the fire at Chapters Living. In the critical moments before emergency responders arrived, Logan Mackiney, Kelsey Tisdale, and Claire Uftring immediately called 911 and selflessly stepped forward to alert residents and help them reach safety. Their courage and compassion demonstrated character beyond their years and likely made a life-saving difference.
🚒 Three additional recognitions were presented to those involved in the heroic rescue efforts during the May 31 apartment fire on School Street. Brandon Hardt was recognized for alerting residents to the danger and helping a resident safely escape the burning building. Clayton Kuhlman was honored for helping bring a ladder to the scene, providing a critical means of rescue. Firefighter/Paramedic Daniel Grothe was recognized for his courageous actions in climbing that ladder and assisting a resident to safety. Together, their quick thinking and bravery undoubtedly made a life-saving difference.
🎖️ In addition, the City of Washington recognized Certified Nursing Assistants Week/National Nursing Assistants Week. The City extends its gratitude to the dedicated nursing assistants and CNAs whose compassion, professionalism, and commitment make a difference in the lives of those they serve every day.
❤️ These recognitions remind us that a strong community is built by people who are willing to serve others, even in moments of crisis. The City is grateful for each of these individuals and proud to celebrate their contributions to our community and we thank Fire Chief Gee for presenting the individuals with the life-saving challenge coin to commemorate their heroic actions.
