Washingtonville Village Center Design Discussion Proposals like this have existed for decades, but in light of the recent
fire, may only be feasible now. No specifics of design have been defined.

Consider proposal to improve Village economic viability and traffic congestion by
adopting a plan to relocate businesses and improve traffic creating a Village
Center. This sketch has been developed solely as a concept for discussion. It is intended to reflect an example of how reconstructed buildings and a roundabout could be

The basic design goals of this exercise are to address:

1) Traffic congestion
2) Emergency response times & access
3) Fire & flood resistance
4) Convenient parking for businesses

The Village population has more than doubled since the last attempt to solve the congestion issue (late 1980's), rendering the historic buildings (which for the most part have not been treated as such) that remain, substantially handicapped. And it's getting worse...

Hello and welcome! We find ourselves faced with a sad but unique situation in our village's history. One which was never planned, yet presents an opportunity for forward progress with minimal (further) destruction while honoring historic buildings that no longer exist. The basic design goals of this exercise are to address: traffic congestion & emergency response access, fire & flood resistance, parking, and the creation of a vibrant, historically aware village center that will continue to attract visitors through future centuries.
