Wasilla 2045 Comprehensive Plan Series: Part 2

Last week, we introduced the City of Wasilla's 2045 Comprehensive Plan Update and discussed how it will help shape our community's future. This week, we're taking a closer look at why Comprehensive Plans matter.

🏙️ Why Does a Comprehensive Plan Matter?

A Comprehensive Plan is more than a vision—it serves as a roadmap for future decisions and investments in our community.

This plan helps the City:
✔️ Set priorities for future projects
✔️ Guide responsible growth and development
✔️ Plan long-term infrastructure improvements
✔️ Support local businesses and economic opportunity
✔️ Position Wasilla to secure grant and project funding

When projects are supported by the Comprehensive Plan, it becomes easier to move them from ideas into action.

The decisions made today will help shape Wasilla for generations to come. That's why community input is such an important part of the process.

Help Shape Wasilla’s Future – Get Involved in the 2045 Comprehensive Plan Update!

The City of Wasilla is updating its Comprehensive Plan for the first time since 2011 — and we want to hear from YOU. As our community continues to grow and evolve, this update will help create a shared vision for Wasilla’s future through 2045.

A Comprehensive Plan is more than just a vision — it’s the tool the City uses to turn community priorities into real projects and improvements. The plan helps guide:
✔️ Safer roads and transportation improvements
✔️ Parks and recreation opportunities
✔️ Infrastructure upgrades
✔️ Economic development and job growth
✔️ Responsible growth and long-term community planning

The updated plan will identify community priorities, guide smart budgeting decisions, strengthen economic resilience, and help secure funding for future projects.

Your voice matters! This plan will shape the future of Wasilla for years to come, and community input is a critical part of the process.

**COMMUNITY AWARENESS POST** If you are wondering who are going around during the day knocking on doors, they are a group of young college students from Europe named Helena, Laura and Patrik. They are doing a summer exchange program selling educational books and apps for families from young toddlers all the way to college prep. They have acquired their permits approved by the city of Wasilla and checked in with the police department. They are very excited to meet our lovely community and show us all the awesome learning materials. If you see them around, tell them hi!

Congratulations, Chief Rapson.

Mayor Glenda Ledford proudly recognizes May 2026 as Older Americans Month in the City of Wasilla, honoring the older adults whose wisdom, experience, and contributions continue to strengthen and enrich our community.

This year’s national theme, “Championing Your Health,” highlights the importance of prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging.

During the proclamation presentation on Monday, May 18, 2026, Marlene Munsell, CEO of Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. (WASI), and Eileen Falkenstein, WASI representative, shared the incredible impact WASI had in 2025 — providing more than 112,415 meals to 1,047 seniors and offering 7,206 safe rides for seniors in our community.

We thank Wasilla Area Seniors, Inc. for their dedication and service to our older citizens, and we celebrate the many older Americans who make Wasilla a stronger, healthier, and more connected community every day. ❤️
