This September 11 marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The City of Watauga will begin the day with our traditional morning remembrance at the 9/11 Memorial. Members of Watauga Fire and Police will stand watch as key moments from September 11 are recognized with ceremonial bell tolls.

For the 25th anniversary, the community will gather again that evening for a Remembrance Ceremony beginning at 7:00 PM.

The evening ceremony is planned to include:
• Watauga Joint Fire/Police Honor Guard
• National Anthem
• Remarks from City and public safety leaders
• Memorial wreath laying
• Bagpiper performance of Amazing Grace
• A historical video sharing the story of Watauga’s World Trade Center steel and the creation of the 9/11 Memorial
• Candlelight vigil at approximately 8:30 PM

Whether you join us in the morning, evening, or both, we invite you to remember the lives lost, honor those who answered the call, and help carry their stories forward.

🚨 REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! 🚨

We’re excited to announce that registration for the Citizen Public Safety Academy is officially OPEN! 🎉

This year, the Academy will operate a little differently than in previous years. Instead of one semester, the Academy will consist of two required semesters, giving participants an opportunity to learn more about both sides of public safety in our community.

🔥 Fall 2026 – Fire Department Semester
📅 First Class: September 24, 2026
👮 Spring 2027 – Police Department Semester

Each semester will consist of eight sessions, and participants must complete both semesters to graduate from the Academy.

The Fire Department schedule below is tentative:

September 24, 2026 - Introductions, Rules of Engagement, Fire Department History, and Station Tour
October 1, 2026 - PPE & SCBA with Apparatus Tour
October 8, 2026 - EMS Expo – Stop the Bleed, CPR, and First Aid
October 15, 2026 - Vehicle Extrication & Air Medical Operations
October 22, 2026 - Fire Science (Doll House) & Fire Extinguisher Training
October 29 - Fire Streams & Hose Evolutions
November 5 - Search & Rescue Operations
November 12, 2026 - Live Fire & Scenario Day (Final Fire Night)

🎓 A formal graduation ceremony will be held in the Spring following completion of the Police Department semester.

This is a great opportunity to go behind the scenes, meet the people who serve our community, learn about public safety operations, and gain a better understanding of the important work performed by our Fire and Police Departments.

The first day of school is just around the corner, and the Watauga Fire Department wants to help everyone start the school year safe, prepared, and ready to learn! ❤

As you head back to school, remember:

🚌 Slow down in school zones and watch for children and crossing guards.
🚗 Put the phone down and keep your eyes on the road.
🚸 Stop school buses when the red lights are flashing.
👟 Use designated crosswalks and look both ways before crossing.

👶🧸 Babysitter Safety Course - What a Great Day! 🚒

This past Friday, the Watauga Fire Department had the pleasure of hosting its first ever Babysitter Safety Course, giving local tweens and teens valuable skills and knowledge to help them become confident and responsible babysitters.

A huge thank you to Cook Children's for partnering with us and helping teach important topics including water safety, safe baby sleep, gun safety and more. ❤

We'd also like to give a special THANK YOU to Texas Donuts & Kolache's Watauga for generously providing donuts for our participants! 🍩 Your support helped make the morning extra special.

We're proud to invest in our community's young caregivers and provide them with the tools they need to help keep the children in their care safe.

Stay informed before an emergency happens.

Outdoor warning sirens may not be heard indoors, and social media posts may not appear in your feed right away. Signing up for City notifications gives you another way to receive information when it matters most.

WATAUGA ALERTS🚨

Sign up to receive emergency alerts and weather warnings that could affect you and your family.

The City can send alerts by text message, email or voicemail, based on the contact methods you select. This is important because many households no longer have landline phones.

Watauga Alerts may be used for emergencies that require residents to take action, including:

• Evacuations
• Shelter-in-place notices
• Boil water orders
• Weather warnings
• Other public safety emergencies

The system may also be used for non-emergency incidents, such as road closures or police or fire activity that could affect residents. It will not be used for routine City information.

When registering, provide your address so alerts can be sent based on your location. This helps prevent you from receiving notices that do not affect your area.

Alerts are free, but text messaging or data rates may apply.

Prefer text messages only? Text your ZIP code to 38276. The My Alerts app is also available for download.

The City also offers website notifications, newsletters, and social media updates. Using more than one method can help make sure you do not miss information.
