Watchung Fire Department has been proudly staffed 100% by volunteers for the past 116 years, providing a tremendous savings to the residents of our community while delivering professional fire and rescue services.

As the Borough of Watchung celebrates its 100th anniversary and our nation marks America’s 250th birthday, there has never been a better time to get involved and give back to your community.

Today, we need your help. Volunteer fire departments across New Jersey are facing declining membership, and Watchung is no exception. Without new volunteers stepping forward, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the level of service our residents have come to expect. Simply put, we cannot continue this proud tradition without the next generation answering the call.

Whether you’re looking to serve your neighbors, learn valuable skills, build lifelong friendships, or make a real difference when it matters most, there is a place for you at the Watchung Fire Department.
