Working Past 65?

If you’re still working after 65, don’t assume you should automatically delay Medicare. Your employer’s size, your health coverage, and whether you have an HSA can all affect your Medicare decisions.

Before delaying Medicare, make sure you understand:
• When you can delay Part B without a penalty
• Which insurance pays first
• How Medicare affects your HSA
• What happens when you retire or lose employer coverage

A little planning now can help prevent unexpected costs, coverage gaps, and late enrollment penalties later.

Have questions about how Medicare works with your employer coverage? Contact a CHOICES Counselor for free, unbiased Medicare guidance.

Honoring Our CHOICES Team Members and Volunteers!

Yesterday, the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging (WCAAA) hosted our Annual CHOICES Team Member Recognition event. We were thrilled to welcome CHOICES counselors and volunteers from across the region to our office for an afternoon dedicated to celebration, learning, and gratitude.

The event featured an informative guest speaker from the Social Security Administration, providing valuable insights to help our team stay at the forefront of beneficiary resources. The afternoon wrapped up with wonderful food, great conversation, and collaborative discussions on how we can continue making a meaningful impact in the lives of local older adults navigating complex Medicare needs.

A huge thank you to Kiara Carchi, Chelcy Htoo, and Iliana Gomez of the WCAAA CHOICES team for putting together such a wonderful event to honor the dedicated people who make our mission possible every day!

On May 22nd, 2026, regional leaders from across Western Connecticut gathered for WCAAA's Regional Leadership Breakfast.

This meeting brought together dedicated professionals from healthcare, housing, transportation, municipal government, and social services. Our goal was to address the most critical challenges facing older adults, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities in our communities.

Key areas identified for regional action included addressing significant transportation barriers, navigating affordable housing options, combating caregiver burnout and social isolation, and more.

Thank you to all the participants who shared their time and expertise. By working together across sectors, we can build a more connected and supportive region for everyone.
