We’re proud to congratulate four of our own EMS providers on graduating from the University of Vermont this weekend!

WASI is fortunate to have these dedicated, hardworking providers as part of our team, and we’re excited that they will continue serving our communities in varying roles after graduation. Their commitment both in the classroom and in the field is something to celebrate, and we can’t wait to see all they accomplish next.

Congratulations to all four graduates on this incredible achievement!

Adding an Ambulance to the Fleet!

We’re excited to share that we’ve officially ordered our newest ambulance, A-3—a 2026 Ford Transit Type II AWD mid-roof van.

This smaller, more cost-efficient unit is expected to help reduce operating expenses while maintaining the high level of care our community relies on.

Since January, we’ve expanded daytime staffing, allowing us to take on interfacility transports and respond to multiple emergency calls simultaneously—a major step forward for service in our area.

As a rural non-profit EMS provider, sustainability is critical. A-3 will support routine transports and local emergency responses, helping us make the most of our resources and promote long-term financial security.

A big thank you to Trinity Apparatus for their support, cost savings, and quick turnaround during the ordering process!

At last night’s monthly Waterbury Backcountry Rescue Team meeting, Chief Rounds presented a unit citation and medals of valor to four brave rescuers on our team who risked their own lives selflessly on Camel’s Hump in early February to save two disoriented and hypothermic hikers.

Knee deep snow. Complicated overnight operations. Wind chill temperatures between -30 and -40°F. High winds at high altitude. And two patients in need of assistance off of the mountain before they succumb to cold injuries.

The actions of this team and those rescuers from other departments that came mutual aid to assist are the reason that these two hikers will live to tell the tale. Congrats team on a job well done!
