This , we're reminded that connection is essential for isolated seniors. That's why Meals on Wheels volunteers are more than just a meal delivery; they provide a friendly face, a wellness check, and a moment of connection. For many seniors, that knock on the door may be the only social interaction they have all day.

You can help change this statistic. Volunteer with your local provider and be the connection a senior is waiting for.

We had a great time at the Workforce in Motion Summit & Equipment Rodeo at Castleton.

The event brought together approximately 80 employers and 1,200 students to explore careers in fields such as construction, commercial driving, heavy equipment operations, nursing, plumbing and heating, and more.

Our team connected with about 125 attendees throughout the day at the HireAbility Vermont booth. Students and job seekers stopped by to learn about our services and participate in our interactive “Try on a Trade” activity, where they explored different career fields using hands-on props.

It was especially exciting to meet students from across Rutland, Bennington, and Windsor counties, answer questions about HireAbility services, and share how youth can access supports starting at age 14. Our Transition Counselors and Youth Employment Specialists also had the opportunity to reconnect with students they already support and build new connections for the future.

Events like this help young people discover career possibilities, connect with employers, and take the next step toward their employment goals. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello!

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Every older Vermonter deserves to live with dignity, respect, and safety.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse, as well as neglect. Unfortunately, many cases go unreported, often because older adults may feel isolated, afraid, or unsure where to turn for help.

On this World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we encourage our community to learn the warning signs, check in on older loved ones, and help create a culture where older adults are valued, heard, and protected.

If you are concerned about the safety or well-being of an older adult, help is available.

At Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging, we are committed to supporting older Vermonters in living with dignity, independence, and quality of life.

For information about available resources, contact our Helpline at 1-800-642-5119 or visit www.svcoa.org.

Together, we can help prevent elder abuse and build stronger, safer communities for all.
