Jim Nash, Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner

Jim Nash, Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner. Protecting public health and safety, natural resources and a healthy environment.

The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner's Office is faced with many challenges in the 21st century. It must provide leadership in areas of regional cooperation in order to make responsible decisions about infrastructure, the environment and water quality. Formerly known as the Drain Commissioner's Office, the name was changed to the Water Resources Commissioner's Office in November 2008 to

reflect the increased duties and responsibilities of the office. It's not just about drains in the 21st century. Today, the Water Resources Commissioner's Office is a key component in providing you with quality water supply, drainage systems and sewage disposal systems...and doing it in a way that keeps our environment safe and promotes responsible growth. Michigan State law, The Drain Code--Act 40 of 1956, as amended, gives the County Water Resources Commissioner powers and responsibilities to govern legally established drainage systems within the county. The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner also has additional statutory responsibilities (Act 342, etc.), along with other responsibilities delegated by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.

Last month I gathered with Oakland County staff for the annual Memorial Day Remembrance event hosted by the Oakland County, Michigan Government Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Oakland County Parks and the OakVet Voices Employee Resource Group. The event honored those who served and reflected on the importance of public service, sacrifice, and hope for peace.

I was honored to speak about my family’s long history of military service, beginning with my father, Chester C. Nash II, who served in a World War I field hospital after leaving college to join the British Army out of Canada following the sinking of the Lusitania. Decades later, my two brothers, and I followed in his footsteps through our own military service during and after the Vietnam war. My father’s example of service and sacrifice continues to inspire my commitment to public service every day.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this meaningful event possible.

Friendly reminder: “Flushable” doesn’t always mean sewer friendly. Wipes can clog pipes, damage equipment, and lead to backups. The toilet is only for the 3 Ps – P*e, P**p and (toilet) Paper.
