To continue EMS Week, we’re honoring a man who helped build the heart of Waterford Rescue Squad.

Ray Swart didn’t just lead a squad, he built a family. He listened, gave advice, checked on his people, and carried an unmatched pride for Waterford and the service we provide to our community.

His leadership, compassion, and dedication helped shape the culture that still defines us today.

Thank you, Ray, for laying the foundation and reminding us what it truly means to care for one another.

We go back to our roots today in celebration of EMS Week.

Long before modern equipment and today’s technology, dedicated volunteers answered the call with the same mission we carry now, serving our community when they needed us most.

To the generations of Waterford Rescue Squad members who paved the way, thank you for building the foundation we stand on today. Your legacy continues every time the tones drop. ❤️

Past. Present. Always family.

This EMS Week, we’re celebrating something bigger than years on paper — we’re celebrating the people who built Waterford Rescue Squad into a family. 🚑❤️

In a profession where many providers leave after a few years, having crews with 10, 15, even 20+ years of service says everything about the pride people have in this station, this community, and each other.

Congratulations to our long-time providers:

• Tracy Weir – 23 Years
• Eric Hanchett – 22 Years
• Daniel Slaver – 18 Years
• Richard Ellison – 16 Years
• James Conley – 14 Years
• Jason Christie – 13 Years
• Elisabeth Hildenbrandt – 12 Years
• Dr. Bruce Ushkow – 11 Years

These years represent countless calls, sleepless nights, difficult moments, laughter in the bays, kitchen table conversations, and showing up over and over again for complete strangers on their worst days.

Waterford has always had a sense of pride that’s hard to explain unless you’ve been here. Pride in the station. Pride in the trucks. Pride in the crews. Pride in knowing that no matter how hard the call is, someone beside you is going to step up and help carry it with you.

That culture starts with leadership that genuinely cares. Tracy and Rick have always taken pride not just in the organization itself, but in the people who keep it moving every single day. They care about the crews, the station, and creating an environment where providers feel supported, valued, and part of something bigger than themselves. Thank You!

That’s why people stay.

Not because EMS is easy — because it absolutely isn’t — but because Waterford has always felt like home to so many of us.

Happy EMS Week to the providers who continue to make this place special year after year.

This week, we celebrate the men and women behind the uniform who answer the call day and night without hesitation. EMS Week is a time to recognize the dedication, sacrifice, compassion, and strength it takes to serve a community during some of life’s hardest moments.

From medical emergencies and motor vehicle accidents to comfort during uncertainty, EMS professionals are there when seconds matter most. Behind every siren is a team committed to protecting and caring for others, often putting the needs of the community before their own.

At Waterford Rescue Squad, we are proud to serve this community alongside an incredible group of EMTs, paramedics, and volunteers who work tirelessly to make a difference every single day.

Thank you to all EMS providers everywhere for your commitment, courage, and compassion.

Happy EMS Week from all of us at Waterford Rescue Squad. 💙🚑

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Waterford Rescue Squad! 💐

Today we celebrate all the amazing mothers in our community and especially the moms on our staff who continue to serve others, even while spending part of their Mother’s Day away from their own families.

Thank you for your compassion, strength, sacrifice, and dedication both at home and on the ambulance. Your families share you with this community every day, and we are incredibly grateful for all that you do.

To the moms working today: we see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you for choosing to care for others.

We hope all mothers have a safe, happy, and love-filled Mother’s Day! ❤️

This week we recognize National Nurses Week.

To the nurses who show up, step in, and make a difference every single day thank you!

Your compassion, skill, and dedication do not go unnoticed. Whether in the hospital, in the community, or alongside us on calls, you are a critical part of patient care.

We appreciate everything you do. 💙

April kept us moving! Our crews answered every call. 🚑💙

This was our busiest month of the year so far with 108 calls for service, including 7 mutual aid calls assisting our neighboring communities.

From emergencies at home to helping beyond our district, your Waterford Rescue Squad remains committed to being there when it matters most.

Thank you to our dedicated crews, supporters, and community for continuing to stand behind us.

Always Ready. Always Caring.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Behind every uniform is a human being.

First responders are often the ones showing up on someone else’s worst day — staying calm in chaos, carrying heavy moments, and pushing through long after the call ends. But mental health matters for those who answer the call, too.

The weight of this job doesn’t always come off with the uniform.

Checking in on each other, talking openly, and asking for help are signs of strength — not weakness. Whether you’re EMS, fire, law enforcement, dispatch, or support staff… you matter.

To our crews: You spend your lives protecting others. Please remember you deserve that same care too.

Strong minds. Stronger together. 💙
