On Aug 21st we participated in a Shop with a First Responder event at Target. A group of eight Waterford children were given $100 gift cards to purchase school supplies and they were assisted by various first responders as they shopped. The first responders consisted of officers from Waterford PD, Groton Town PD, New London PD, and members from the Waterford Ambulance Service. The event started at the Waterford Community Center, where they were picked up by a luxury bus and brought to Target.

Many thanks to all businesses that donated to this event! Nana's Byrek donated lunch, Joshua's Worldwide donated the bus service, Starbucks donated refreshments, Target provided goodie bags, and the Cactus Jack Foundation purchased the gift cards. It was a great day for everyone that was involved!

Welcome Back Students

As our children return to school today, please drive safe and take a few extra minutes to get where you're going. Some will be waiting at the bus stop, others walking or riding their bikes to and from school, and even some driving to Waterford High School.

Robert is one...if not the...best Animal Control Officers around. We've had the privilege of having him as part of the Waterford family with his exceptional advocacy for our animals.

Thank you for everything you've meant for the Waterford Community during your time as an ACO and your first career as a police officer.

As the dedicated staff of our schools welcome students back for another school year, we wanted to remind everyone that Waterford Police Officers will be back at all of our schools as well.

Each year, Waterford Police Officers conduct hundreds of checks and walk-throughs at schools throughout town. Officers check in with the main office, walk the halls, and interact with students when appropriate.

During the first few days of school, you will likely see officers at drop-off and pick-up times at most schools. There is no reason for concern—we are there to assist as needed. Officers will also be assigned to conduct speed enforcement in school zones and neighborhoods throughout town.

You may also see officers following school buses along their routes to ensure motorists are stopping when buses are picking up and dropping off students. Please be mindful of your speed and watch carefully for school buses, especially as buses return to the roads and students return to their bus stops.

In addition to patrol officers conducting school checks and monitoring traffic, we have three incredible School Resource Officers—Dan Lane, Norm Malbaurn, and Rob Winters—who are assigned to our schools full time. They will be there tomorrow to welcome the kids back as well.

Welcome back, everyone! We hope you have a safe and great first day of school tomorrow!
