⚖️ FUN FACT FRIDAY⚖️

Not all criminal cases are felonies… 👀

Some are CM cases
(Criminal Misdemeanors)

Misdemeanor classes ⬇️
👉 Class C: up to 30 days in jail
👉 Class B: up to 6 months in jail
👉 Class A: up to 364 days in jail

BUT ⬇️

👉 Jail isn’t the only outcome
👉 Many cases involve probation, fines, or supervision
👉 Some can still impact your record long-term

“Just a misdemeanor” ≠ no consequences

In Illinois...

A CM case might be less significant than a felony...but it can still have significant consequences 🔥

Again, if you have any questions about our Friday posts please bring them to our May 22, 2026 Coffee and Conversation, or call the office.

As part of the office's ongoing effort to engage in conversation with the community, we are going to start posting FUN FACT FRIDAY. The idea is to give some information about the criminal justice system in Illinois. Hopefully, if anyone has any questions about any of the Friday posts they will bring them to the next monthly Coffee and Conversation, which as a reminder will be May 22, 2026. As always, if you can't make it but still have a question, feel free to call the office.

⚖️ FUN FACT FRIDAY ⚖️

In every criminal case both sides are entitled to discovery 👀

What is discovery?

👉 The exchange of evidence and information
before trial

The State must provide ⬇️

👉 Police reports
👉 Witness statements
👉 Videos / recordings
👉 Evidence that helps the defense

(Prosecutors offices do not create their own reports but rely on the various investigating agencies to give them the above.)

Defense must provide ⬇️

👉 Certain witness info
👉 Defenses they plan to use (in some cases)
BUT ⬇️
👉 Discovery is ongoing
👉 New evidence can be added
👉 Not everything has to be turned over immediately

No surprises at trial—no Perry Mason moments!

Release Date: 3-13-2026.
The Office of Statewide Pretrial Services wants to make the public aware of a scam currently affecting in-custody defendants' family members. Individuals are being contacted by scammers posing as Pretrial Services and requesting payment for GPS devices or supervision in exchange for a family member's release. OSPS Officers will clearly inform the defendants that OSPS will never request payment for GPS devices or any supervision services, and OSPS will not solicit fees from their family members to cover these costs.

☕📢 YOU’RE INVITED: COFFEE & CONVERSATION 📢☕
🗓 April 10, 2026
⏰ 8:30 AM
📍 Old Courtroom – Monroe County Courthouse

In today’s world, information is everywhere—social media, news, the internet—and it’s not always accurate. Too often, what we see is misleading, or outright misinformation, shaped by someone else’s agenda.

👉 So let’s change that. That’s why I’m inviting Monroe County residents to join me for a Coffee & Conversation.

Come and:

✔️ Ask questions about how the criminal court system works
✔️ Get clear, factual information about the State’s Attorney’s Office
✔️ Gain insight into the office’s work while respecting confidentiality and legal limits

☕I will be personally providing coffee and pastries, and hoping other county officials can stop by if available.

⭐ My hope is to make this a monthly gathering, so residents can stay informed about the criminal court system and how the State’s Attorney’s office is working for the citizens of Monroe County.

📞 Can’t make it? Still have questions? Reach out anytime: 618-939-8681 ext. 215

👥 I hope to see you there—and in the meantime…

🌷 Wishing you and your family a Blessed & Happy Easter! 🌷
