The House of Neighborly Service is a group of churches, agencies, schools, civic groups and organizations who have the common mission to empower families and individuals in their lives.

Last week, we had the opportunity to bring PurpleOne training to House of Neighborly Service in Waterloo!

We’re grateful for their continued partnership, for hosting us, and for investing the time to learn how to recognize domestic violence, respond safely, and connect survivors with resources.

Every person who becomes a PurpleOne helps us build a stronger network of informed, supportive community members throughout Southwestern Illinois.

Late fees add up fast.

A $150 utility bill can quickly become $190 after a late fee and reconnection fee. That’s $40 in additional costs that could have gone toward the original bill.

If you think you may need help, please reach out early. Don’t wait for a shut-off notice or disconnection. The sooner you contact HNS, the more opportunity we may have to help before additional costs are added.

Because HNS assistance is intended to address the actual need, we do not cover late fees, penalties or reconnection fees.

A little planning can make limited dollars go further—for you and for other neighbors who may need help.

Neighbors helping neighbors—that’s what Monroe County does best.

A big thank you to Skip Weber of Weber Chevrolet for generously donating fresh pork to benefit St. Paul Lutheran Church and HNS food pantries.

Gifts like this are a great example of what happens when local businesses and organizations come together with a shared purpose: taking care of the community we call home.
