Police K9s come in all shapes and sizes and bring different specialties to the team, but each plays an important role in protecting, serving, and connecting with our community.

Today we celebrate our four-legged partners and the incredible work they do every day!

On Wednesday, members of the Black Hawk County Aerial Response Team and Boat Patrol Team, along with Buchanan County Drone Team and EMA, DNR, Cedar Falls Fire Department, and Quasqueton Fire Department had joint training. It was a great learning experience to be able to connect with many different departments.

The Skydio X10 drone was paid for in part by Canadian Northern. This drone has been used to search for missing adults and children, fleeing suspects, and documenting crash and crime scenes.

Earlier this morning, we had two deputies graduate from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy’s 327th Basic Academy! 🎓

Over the past 16 weeks, they have spent countless hours away from their families, putting in the hard work and dedication it takes to complete the academy. From Defensive Tactics and pursuit driving to criminal law and everything in between, those 16 weeks of training have all led to this moment.

-On 08/07/26 at 9:25pm Black Hawk County Consalidated Dispatch had multiple calls about a vehicle rollover at mile marker 193 on US 218.

-A 2008 pathfinder swerved to avoid a slower moving vehicle, overcorected, and rolled over.
The single occupant was transported to Unity Point Allen by Mercy One paramedis for non life threatening injuries.

-Black Hawk County Deputies were assited by Janesville fire and first responders, Iowa State Patrol, and Mercy One EMS.

𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐲

On August 7, 2026, at approximately 1:50 pm, Quinton Thomas Avery Davis (DOB: 06/26/2001) was convicted of Assault Causing Injury, a forcible felony, stemming from a stabbing incident in October 2025.

𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 trial. 𝐇𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐚𝐰𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐉𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞.
Following the guilty verdict, the judge 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐚𝐰𝐤 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟'𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞. As a Deputy Sheriff and Detention Officer approached Davis to handcuff him, he fled the courtroom. Davis escaped the courthouse, breaking a window in the process.

Deputies from the Sheriff's Office, officers from the Waterloo Police Department, and troopers from the Iowa State Patrol searched the area but were unable to locate Davis. In addition to being ordered into custody for the assault conviction, Davis will have additional charges of Escape from Custody and Criminal Mischief.

"Anytime someone who is supposed to be in custody is able to escape, it is obviously very concerning. We will be conducting an internal review to see if there are any changes we need to make to prevent something like this from happening again. Right now, our top priority is locating Quinton Davis and taking him into custody. If anyone has any information regarding his whereabouts, please call dispatch at 319-291-2515. Any help is greatly appreciated," said Sheriff Nate Neff.

Anyone with information about Davis's location is urged to call dispatch at 319-291-2515. If you see Davis, do not approach him. Instead, call 911 immediately.
