🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨
We were recently made aware of another scam targeting family members of incarcerated individuals.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝
In this case, the caller claimed to be a Sergeant with the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office and instructed the family to obtain money for a GPS ankle monitor. The caller even provided a Venmo account for payment.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟’𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰
❶ The Sheriff’s Office will 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 call you and demand immediate payment through Venmo, gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or cash.
❷ The Sheriff’s Office will 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 direct you to a retail store to purchase payment cards or withdraw cash for official business.
❸ If you receive a suspicious call, 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly using a phone number you know is legitimate.

• On 05/30/26, at approximately 2024 hours, Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the area of River Forest Road and the ramp to southbound Interstate 380 in Evansdale for a report of a motorcycle collision.

•Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the driver of the motorcycle collided with the guardrail while approaching the curve of the ramp. During the collision, a passenger was ejected from the motorcycle.

•The driver and passenger were transported to MercyOne Hospital, and the driver was later life-flighted to the University of Iowa Hospital. The driver and passenger sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and are both in stable condition.

•The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Evansdale Police Department, the Evansdale Fire Department, and the Waterloo Fire Department. The collision remains under investigation.
