Where are button batteries in your home? Look for risks in items like these:
● Remotes and key fobs
● Flameless candles
● Hearing aids
● Tracking devices
● Kitchen and bathroom scales
● Toys and electronics

If you have little kids (or they visit your home), button batteries are a big injury risk. Look for products with screw-secured battery compartments. Check them regularly to make sure the compartments are still tightly closed.

June 12th is National Button Battery Awareness Day But poison i g prevention is year-round.
“I didn’t know he had swallowed something.” “I don’t know where she even got it!”
Sound familiar? Kids are pros at finding things we overlook—like button batteries. Keep batteries out of sight and reach of children, ideally in a locked cabinet or container.

🌱🏆 BIG NEWS FOR TRI-COUNTY HEAD START! 🏆🌱

We are incredibly honored to announce that Tri-County Head Start has been named the 2026 Farm to Early Care & Education Program of the Year by the Iowa Farm to School and Early Care Coalition! 🎉

This award recognizes our commitment to helping children build healthy habits through hands-on learning, gardening, nutrition education, local food experiences, family engagement, and community partnerships.

From planting seeds in our classrooms and gardens, to Tasty Tuesdays, cooking activities, and introducing children to locally sourced foods, we believe every experience helps grow a lifelong connection to healthy living.

This recognition belongs to our dedicated staff, supportive families, community partners, and most importantly, the amazing children who inspire us every day. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who helps us create meaningful opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive.

🌱 Together, we’re planting seeds for a healthier future—one child at a time.

💚🌱🏆

Celebrating Tri-County Staff's 2026 Graduates.🎗️🧑‍🎓👩🏾‍🎓

Parenting is not an easy responsibility. It requires sacrifice, patience, love, guidance, encouragement, and sometimes simply finding the STRENGTH to keep showing up when things get tough (at least that’s how I feel). There is no perfect parent, or roadmap, and every family's journey is different. Yet regardless of the path, each of you has helped your child reach another milestone and overcome life's hurdles on their journey.

While it’s your child's name that is called at the ceremony, this accomplishment belongs to you as well. Behind every graduate is someone who packed lunches, helped with homework, attended events, provided encouragement, wiped tears, celebrated victories, and never stopped believing in them. Congratulations to all of you!! Job well done and on to the next journey.

🎥 VIDEO RECAP | SCSHSA Fatherhood & Male Engagement Conference 2026 💙

What an incredible experience!

Tri-County Head Start fathers and male staff recently traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to attend the annual South Carolina State Head Start Association Fatherhood & Male Engagement Conference.

This inspiring event brought together fathers, mentors, educators, and community leaders from across the region to celebrate the vital role men play in the lives of children and families.

Throughout the conference, our team gained valuable knowledge, built meaningful connections, shared experiences, and returned home with new tools and ideas to strengthen family engagement throughout our communities.

Memorial Day Weekend
As we pay tribute to the incredible men and women who've served our country this Memorial Day, let's also make sure we're keeping our families safe around the water. Heading to the pool or beach this weekend? Here are some friendly reminders for your holiday:
- Wear life jackets when you're going to be in or around natural bodies of water, especially young children.
- Always buddy up – no solo swims!
- Keep a close eye on the kids – no distractions.
Use the 5 Layers of Protection:
1. Barriers and alarms
2. Supervision
3. Water Competency
4. Life Jackets
5. Emergency Preparation
Download a Water Watcher Card! It's a great way to ensure someone is always on duty, keeping eyes on the water.
