After an incredible 30-year career, we are proud to celebrate the well-deserved retirement of Master Sergeant Jason DeMarest from the Watertown Police Department.
Jason began his public safety career working security-related details for St. Mary’s Hospital and Super Stop & Shop before joining the Watertown Police Department in September 1996. Over the years, his dedication, professionalism, and commitment have left a lasting impact on both the department and the community he faithfully served.
Throughout his distinguished career, Master Sergeant DeMarest served in numerous capacities. He was a member of the Department’s Awards Committee for more than 20 years, a role he considered especially meaningful because it allowed him to recognize the outstanding work of his fellow officers. He also served as Police Union Treasurer from 2005 to 2008 and as a Field Training Officer from 2003 to 2010. Jay often reflected that serving as a Field Training Officer was the most fulfilling part of his career, as it gave him the opportunity to mentor new officers and help them achieve the same goals he had as a young rookie officer.
Master Sergeant DeMarest’s leadership and dedication were recognized through his promotions, first to Sergeant in 2010 and later to Master Sergeant in 2023. He spent the majority of his supervisory career leading the Department’s midnight shift, where he earned the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and the officers under his command.
His outstanding service was recognized with numerous awards and commendations, including three Life-Saving Awards, two Distinguished Service Awards, an official commendation, an award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and several letters of commendation from members of the public.
As Master Sergeant DeMarest looks forward to retirement, he plans to spend more time with his family, enjoy his many hobbies, and embrace this exciting new chapter of life. Reflecting on his three decades of service, he described it as “an unbelievably proud career.”
The Watertown Police Department and the Town of Watertown extend their sincere gratitude to Master Sergeant Jason DeMarest for his 30 years of dedicated service to the community and wish him health, happiness, and success in retirement.
Congratulations, Jay, and thank you for your service.

Today, we observe Peace Officers Memorial Day — a day dedicated to honoring the federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, Peace Officers Memorial Day is observed each year on May 15th during National Police Week. It serves as a solemn reminder of the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication demonstrated by the men and women who put on the badge to protect and serve their communities.

Today, we remember the heroes who never made it home, honor the legacy they left behind, and keep their families, friends, and fellow officers in our thoughts.

During National Police Week, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of the men and women who put on the badge each and every day.

Behind every uniform is a person who has chosen service over self — standing watch during our community’s most difficult moments, protecting others, and answering calls that most hope never to face.

This week, and every week, we recognize the dedication of all law enforcement professionals, dispatchers, civilian staff, and the families who stand beside them through it all.

Thank you for your sacrifice, your professionalism, and your continued service to our community. We see your commitment, and we honor all that you do.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Watertown Police Department! 💐

Today, we celebrate and honor all mothers for the love, strength, sacrifice, and guidance they provide every single day. We especially want to recognize the hardworking mothers within our own department who balance the demands of policing while also being incredible moms to their families.

Your dedication, compassion, and commitment — both at home and in service to our community — do not go unnoticed. Thank you for all that you do.

Wishing all mothers a safe, happy, and wonderful Mother’s Day! 💙

Today, the men and women of the Watertown Police Department gathered to wish our own Deputy Chief Renee Dominguez a heartfelt farewell as she prepares to be officially sworn in tomorrow as the Chief of the Stratford Police Department.

Throughout her career with our department, Deputy Chief Dominguez has served the Watertown community with unwavering honor, integrity, and dedication. Her leadership in overseeing department operations and personnel development has left a lasting impact on our agency and the officers she has mentored along the way. Her professionalism, experience, and commitment to excellence will be greatly missed.

We are incredibly proud of Chief Dominguez for achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a Chief of Police. As one of only two women currently serving as a Police Chief in the State of Connecticut, she continues to pave the way for future generations of women in law enforcement. She stands as a powerful example to young girls everywhere that with determination, perseverance, and hard work, anything is possible.

Thank you, Chief Dominguez, for your years of dedicated service to Watertown and for the example you have set for all of us. We wish you nothing but continued success in this next chapter of your career. The Stratford community is in excellent hands.
