Cops N Rec Street Hockey Returns This Summer

The Watertown Recreation Department and Watertown Police Department are bringing back Cops N Rec Street Hockey at Moxley Rink.

This program provides a fun opportunity for young players to stay active, develop hockey skills and connect with Watertown Police officers in a positive community setting. Players of all skill levels are welcome.

Tuesdays, June 30, 2026 – August 11, 2026

Grades 1–2: 5–6 PM

Chief Hanrahan is pleased to announce the promotions of Kenneth Swift to Captain, Mark Lewis to Lieutenant, and Joseph Farrar to Sergeant, effective Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Captain Kenneth Swift is a 24-year veteran of the department. He served as a patrol officer for 14 years before being promoted to Sergeant, where he spent five years as the Sergeant Detective Prosecutor and three years as the Sergeant Detective. He was then promoted to Lieutenant and served as the Lieutenant Detective for the past two years. As Captain, he will oversee the Patrol Division.

Lieutenant Mark Lewis is a 20-year veteran of the department. He served as a night-shift patrol officer for five years before moving to the Detective Division, where he worked for 10 years. Promoted to Sergeant in 2022, he has served as both the Night Shift and Day Shift Patrol Supervisor. For the past two years, he has served as the Sergeant Detective. Lieutenant Lewis will serve as the Night Shift Lieutenant.

Sergeant Joseph Farrar was appointed as a patrol officer in 2022. He served on the night shift for three years before moving to the day shift, where he has continued serving as a patrol officer. In addition to his patrol responsibilities, Sergeant Farrar has served as a background investigator and field training officer for the department. He will now serve as the C Platoon Sergeant on the night shift.

Earlier this week, Linda Kokoros, founder of H.O.P.E. Beyond The Badge, spoke with supervisors from the Watertown Police Department about the critical importance of mental health and wellness within the first responder community.

During her presentation, Kokoros addressed key topics including officer wellness, su***de prevention, reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, the importance of family support, and the resources available to first responders and their families.

Last week, Officer Scafidi joined Officers from Law Enforcement agencies across the state and three Special Olympics Athletes on the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Final Leg Team. Serving as Guardians of the Flame, the team escorted the Flame of Hope across the Commonwealth promoting awareness for Special Olympics Massachusetts and celebrating inclusion. The week culminated in the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremonies for the Special Olympics Summer Games.
On Saturday, Officer Scafidi joined the Cruiser Convoy into the summer games in a show of support for the athletes. Congratulations to the 1,500+ Special Olympics Athletes who competed this weekend!
