Watertown Fire Rescue is at the Hydrant Party at the City Library until 3:00 p.m. with our ladder truck, and we’d love to see you there!

Stop by to check out the truck, meet our firefighters, cool off, and enjoy a fun afternoon with the community. There’s still about an hour left, so come on out before it’s over!

Today we had the opportunity to visit Ave Maria Catholic School for a fun show and tell with one of our fire trucks!

Students got an up close look at the truck and some of the equipment we use every day, while learning about fire safety and what firefighters do to help keep our community safe.

Thank you to the staff and students at Ave Maria for having us. We always enjoy opportunities to connect with our community and help teach fire safety at a young age.

☀️ It’s going to be a hot one! ☀️

After a hot day of training, one of our firefighters found a creative way to cool off! While most of us won’t have a dump tank nearby, everyone should have a plan to beat the heat as temperatures climb into the mid and upper 90s over the next several days.

Remember to:
• Drink plenty of water before you feel thirsty.
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.

Know the signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, headache, nausea, heavy sweating, confusion, or muscle cramps. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or stops sweating, call 911 immediately.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and check in on family, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

As you gather with family and friends, we encourage everyone to celebrate safely. If you’re using fireworks, follow local laws, keep a water source nearby, and never leave fireworks unattended.

This past week, Watertown was proud to host the South Dakota State Fire School at Lake Area Technical College.

More than 550 firefighters from across South Dakota and neighboring states gathered in Watertown for three days of training, education, and professional development. Participants attended a wide variety of classes covering topics that help firefighters stay current with evolving techniques, technology, and best practices in the fire service.

Watertown Fire Rescue was proud to have members participate in the event and learn alongside firefighters from communities across the region. Opportunities like State Fire School allow firefighters to share ideas, build relationships, and bring valuable knowledge back to the departments and citizens they serve.

Thank you to the South Dakota Firefighters Association, Lake Area Technical College, the instructors, organizers, and everyone who helped make this year’s State Fire School a success.

Thank you to Christopher Naum for arriving a few days early before this weekend’s State Fire School. Watertown Fire Rescue crews had the opportunity to attend his course, “The Fireground Blueprint”, and participate in a walking tour of downtown Watertown to gain a better understanding of local building construction and fireground considerations.

Thank you, Mr. Naum for sharing your knowledge and providing an outstanding course.
